Pokémon just revealed the new Mega for the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A and its Victreebel, the popular Grass-Poison Pokémon. However, the reception to Mega Victreebel’s is mixed so far, with some fans criticizing its design, while others are raising questions about Victreebel receiving a Mega form in the first place when there are so many other options without one.
The design makes the Flycatcher Pokémon look like a balloon choking itself with its vine, with three large leaves behind its head. As mentioned in the Tweet, the massive Mega Victreebel is able to deliver destructive tackles and melt steel with its acid.
However, some fans are also loving the design and how it bounces around to move. There’s also a reveal trailer on the Official Pokémon YouTube channel for Mega Victreebel, which shows it chasing several Bug-type Pokémon around for the fun of it.
Pokémon: Legends Z-A Launches In October 2025
Pokémon: Legends Z-A is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16. A playable demo for the game is available at Gamescom 2025 at the Nintendo and Pokémon booths between August 20 to 24.
The game also brings back Mega Evolutions, which is one of the most popular mechanics in the Pokémon franchise, and for good reason. Pokémon: Legends Z-A integrates Mega Evolutions quite well into the gameplay, tying it to the story progression.
We’ll likely see many other new Mega forms for Pokémon that didn’t have it before as the release date for Legends Z-A approaches. But for now, the mixed reception to Mega Victreebel has affected the hype for new Mega Evolution forms for some of the fans, while others are patiently waiting for more new Mega Pokémon.
