Remedy Entertainment has announced a sudden leadership change, with long-time CEO Tero Virtala stepping down, effective immediately! The news comes just two weeks after the studio issued a profit warning following the weak sales of FBC: Firebreak.

Leadership Change Announced

According to Remedy’s official statement, Virtala’s departure was made in “mutual agreement” with the company’s Board of Directors. He will remain temporarily to assist with the leadership transition.

Markus Mäki, Remedy’s co-founder and a board member since 1995, has been appointed interim CEO as of October 22, 2025. Meanwhile, Henri Österlund, a board member since 2017, has been named Chairman of the Board.

Remedy has already started the search for a new permanent CEO.

Virtala’s Legacy at Remedy

During his nine-year at Remedy, Virtala guided the company through major transitions, including the move to a multi-project studio model that allowed for faster parallel development. Under his leadership, Remedy launched Control and Alan Wake 2.

The next few months will be critical for Remedy as it adjusts to new leadership and prepares for the future of its projects! Do not forget to check our latest news, we will keep you updated on how things progress in the future!
