Resident Evil Leaks Suggest Darker, Bigger Code Veronica Remake

Some new details have popped up about the rumored Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake, again coming from insider DuskGolem. As always, take this with a grain of salt. Nothing is official yet, and Capcom could change anything by the time we actually see the game.

DuskGolem recently summed up everything he knew about Code Veronica, so here is a quick recap of what is reportedly happening. Until Resident Evil: Requiem drops, do not expect many more leaks around Veronica. The focus will be on Requiem during the next few weeks!

Development and Release

The remake reportedly started development in 2022 and is already moving fast. Apparently, it is ahead of schedule, unlike the Resident Evil Zero remake that had some internal struggles or got rebooted entirely.

Capcom is said to be planning an announcement this year, with a 2027 release window in mind. The game would be directed by Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo, the same people behind the RE2 and RE4 Remakes, so we are in familiar hands!

Picking Up Where Resident Evil 2 Remake Left Off

Code Veronica is expected to act as a direct sequel to RE2 Remake, both in story and gameplay. Claire Redfield remains the main character, instead of splitting time with Chris.

The island of Rockfort is reportedly getting a semi-open world, giving players more freedom to explore. And yes, Claire will apparently get a motorcycle early on, something the original did not have.

Leaning Harder Into Horror

This version is said to be darker and more disturbing than previous remakes. Zombies look worse than ever, with visible damage from island bombings and heavy maggot infestations in areas like the cemetery.

Voice acting is also getting a full overhaul! It will have a more grounded and serious tone that fits the vibe of modern remakes.

Wesker’s Return and Narrative Changes

Albert Wesker is said to play a bigger role in this version as well, with his organization receiving more attention. Steve Burnside remains part of the story, but some scenes involving specific remarks or uncomfortable behavior toward Claire are reportedly toned down or removed altogether. This is due to Capcom’s current content guidelines.

All enemies and bosses are reportedly returning, so no more missing iconic monsters like some players complained about in RE3 Remake.

Chris, Alexia, and a New Ending

Chris Redfield will still be playable, and he will apparently even fight Wesker in a dedicated boss encounter. However, the final fight will now put Claire against Alexia Ashford, making it clearly more about her as a main character than a shared story.

Darker Lore Left Untouched

The remake is also said to dig deeper into the Ashford family’s link to Nazis, something the original left mostly in the background. Dark themes inspired by WWII prison camps and torture imagery are reportedly kept and expanded, not removed.

Of course, none of this is confirmed by Capcom, but the size of the changes fits their recent remake strategy, so the rumors are plausible. On top of that, Dusk Golem is known to be a reliable leaker when it comes to Capcom, so chances are most of this is accurate. A 2027 release would also fit nicely into Capcom’s current schedule, giving us plenty of time to get hyped!

In the meantime, you can enjoy some more details about Resident Evil Requiem!
