Capcom just gave fans another look at Resident Evil Requiem, and it keeps proving that it is a completely new take on zombie horror. A new live-action short film dropped, and it is not just jump scares this time, but it is going to break your heart.

Resident Evil Requiem – Official ‘Evil Has Always Had A Name’ Live Action Short Film

The Importance of Emotions

The trailer opens in Racoon City at the start of the outbreak, showing a woman with her child. Fast forward to the chaos of the city under military lockdown, and the woman has become a zombie, still clutching a picture of her child as she walks toward the grave. The scene ends with the military taking control, leaving her fate sealed. It is a brief sequence, but it immediately shows that these zombies are not just mindless monsters. They carry the echoes of their lives.

That idea was already shared before the short film went live. In a recent Famitsu interview, director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that Requiem’s zombies will keep memories and personalities from their past lives.

There are about 100 different zombie personalities,” he said.

The team wants a game where players will not immediately understand each zombie, but as you encounter them, you can learn their characteristics and adapt your strategy.

Even the “regular” zombies have a few differences, including unique voices and behaviors. Nakanishi explained that giving zombies these personalities was a project that the developers really wanted to go through with in order to add something more to both the gameplay and the story.

What Makes Requiem Different

The combination of emotions, horror, and zombies with specific behaviors makes Requiem feel different compared to previous Resident Evil games. It is a small but powerful evolution. Enemies that make you think, strategize, and maybe even feel something about the world you are trying to survive in, instead of mindless brain-eating monsters you just have to shoot down.

Resident Evil Requiem is almost here, and judging by the trailer and developer insights, it is definitely going to be a hell of a ride this time!
