Summer Game Fest opened with a huge surprise for Resident Evil fans!
After years of speculation, leaks, and countless fan requests, Capcom officially revealed Resident Evil Veronica, so basically the remake of Code Veronica, and we got our first look at one of the franchise’s most beloved entries.
The reveal trailer immediately shows where we are going, showing Claire Redfield once again caught in a nightmare as she continues her search for her brother, Chris. Longtime fans will instantly recognize the story, since the remake appears to completely rebuild the adventure with new, amazing visuals, updated cinematics, and a much darker presentation.
One of the Most Requested Resident Evil Remakes
Ever since the success of Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake, fans have repeatedly asked Capcom to revisit Code: Veronica.
Originally released in 2000, the game follows Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2. Her search for Chris eventually leads her into another Umbrella-related disaster, introducing us to the twisted Ashford family and some of the series’ most memorable villains.
For many fans, Code: Veronica has long been viewed as one of the last big classic Resident Evil games still waiting for the remake treatment.
Now, that wait is finally over.
Although Capcom has not yet revealed any gameplay footage, the project seems to follow the same philosophy as the company’s recent remakes. This means preserving the original story but modernizing the presentation, controls, and overall experience.
There is no official release date yet, but they hinted at 2027, so we still have a few months to go. However, this definitely sets the tone for the rest of the Summer Game Fest night!
And we are definitely glad to welcome Claire back!
