Rumored Witcher 3 DLC Points to Velen Not Zerrikania

The Witcher 3 Velen

Just when it felt like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had finally told its last story, the DLC rumors are back again.

For a few months now, fans were convinced that a potential third expansion would take Geralt somewhere completely new, especially Zerrikania, one of the most mysterious regions in the Witcher world.

But a new insider comment suggests we might want to scale that back a bit.

Fans Are Looking Too Far Away

The update comes from Polish insider UV o grach, a former Gry-Online journalist with industry ties. During a recent livestream, he hinted that fans speculating about far-off regions like Zerrikania might be “looking too far away.”

Instead, the rumored DLC would supposedly take place closer to home, somewhere within the Northern Kingdoms. In other words, you can think of Velen, and not an exotic desert kingdom.

He did not outright confirm the DLC exists, but he definitely did not shut it down either.

Velen Does Make More Sense

As exciting as Zerrikania sounds, it would be a massive undertaking. Reports suggest the expansion is being handled by a smaller team, and building a new region from scratch would take serious resources. Expanding an existing area like Velen is simply more realistic.

There is also the bigger picture. The DLC is rumored to act as a bridge toward The Witcher 4. If the next game focuses on the Northern Kingdoms like Kovir and Poviss, staying geographically closer would make narrative sense.

It is less impressive, but arguably more logical.

Reported Release Window

The rumored DLC is said to be targeting a May 2026 release, so only a few months away from now! If that timeline is accurate, an official announcement could arrive soon.

That said, CD Projekt has not confirmed the expansion publicly, so everything remains speculative for now.

On top of that, if the DLC is real, expectations should probably stay grounded. Rather than a massive expansion on the scale of Blood and Wine, this would likely be a smaller addition, potentially designed to gently connect Geralt’s final chapter to the future of the series, with Ciri taking over.

For now, Zerrikania might remain a dream, but a return to the swamps and war-torn fields of Velen? That suddenly feels much more plausible.

Once thing is sure, a lot of us are happy either way, to go back to one of the best games ever made.
