The Creator of Just Cause Is Making a Very Different Action Game

If you hear “open-world action game” and immediately think bigger maps and louder explosions, Samson is trying to do the opposite.

Developed by Liquid Swords, a studio founded by the creator of Just Cause, Samson is going to be a more grounded, vehicle-focused action game that is set in a modern city. It is currently planned for early 2026, with a price of $24.99.

Instead of chasing scale, the game puts its focus on density, momentum, and cause-and-effect.

A City That Reacts to You

Samson’s city is semi-open. You are free to move around and explore, but everything feels deliberate. There is a clear, mission-driven story, and the world is built to respond to what you do rather than just exist as a backdrop.

  • Bump into someone, and they react.
  • Drive recklessly, and pedestrians scatter.
  • Start a fight, and nearby NPCs either push back or run.

None of it is particularly special on its own, but together it helps the city feel alive.

Cars Are Not Just Transport

Driving is not just how you get around. Cars feel weighty, impacts matter, and every vehicle has its own strengths. One might get you out fast, another might be better at smashing through trouble.

You can steal almost any vehicle you see, but that does not go unnoticed. Police respond dynamically and will actively chase you, often turning simple jobs into tense getaways.

The focus is not on spectacle, but on making every turn, crash, and decision feel earned.

Fights Are Rough and Situational

Combat follows the same grounded approach. There are no style meters or special finishers. You fight with what is around you.

Grab a wrench, shove someone into the environment, knock over loose objects, or end a fight quickly by using your surroundings. Melee weapons are not rare drops; they are just part of the world. You can even throw one into your trunk and keep it for later.

Jobs, Progression, and Scope

Samson is mission-based, with different types of jobs mixed into the story:

  • Vehicle hits and risky getaways
  • Underground races
  • Theft and tailing missions
  • Close-quarters combat encounters

As you progress, you unlock skills and perks that support different playstyles, like focusing on vehicle mayhem or getting up close in fights.

The main story is expected to run around 10 hours, with roughly 25 hours total for players who want to see everything.

A Smaller Game With a Clear Focus

Samson is not trying to be the biggest action game out there. It is trying to be more focused and grounded.

With its emphasis on driving, reactive systems, and a city that actually responds to your actions, it feels like a more personal take on the genre. If Liquid Swords pulls it off, Samson could end up being one of those games that totally surprises people once it is out. It might just be a good time for anyone waiting on GTA 6.
