Mega Crit is back with another Slay the Spire 2 update, and it’s their biggest one yet. Their new announcement trailer gave players a fresh look at gameplay, cards, the brand-new 4-player co-op mode, and the return of Defect!
Slay the Spire 2 Now With Co-Op
That’s right, Slay the Spire 2 is now getting Co-op with up to four of your friends. We currently aren’t aware of the limitations of the mode, but from the trailer alone, we gather that each player will have the option to vote during events, draw and pick what locations they want to visit on the map, and fights will likely have adjustments depending on whether you are fighting alone or with friends.
However, at the time of writing, we don’t know if co-op allows multiple players to use the same character, so a 4-man Ironclad run is currently unconfirmed. But what we do know is that multiplayer will feature multiplayer-specific cards & powerful team synergies, so your runs will be completely different depending on whether you are playing alone or not.
Defect Returns!

A fan-favorite character from Slay the Spire returns with more firepower and metal than ever. Defect is now officially returning alongside the rest of the cast. The trailer not only shows that their hardware has a bulky upgrade, but they still retain a lot of their gameplay gimmicks from the first game.
This leaves the Watcher as the only character from the first game still missing, and there’s a strong chance they’ll arrive shortly after the early access release.
Slay the Spire 2 Early Access Release

Speaking of, the early access release for Slay the Spire 2 is actually right around the corner. The game will be available to play on Steam on March 5, 2026. But of course, there is more to come throughout early access. More content, including cards, events, environments, enemies, and more, will be added and balanced throughout Early Access.
