Sony Announces Massive 60 Minute State of Play for February 12

Monster Hunter World - Official Sony Playstation Wallpaper

Sony officially announced that a new State of Play is coming this Thursday, February 12. Although these events are usually around 20 to 30 minutes, this one is confirmed to be over 60 minutes long. Exciting!

The unusual length and the fact that it was announced three days in advance make most fans believe that this will take the place of the traditional “PlayStation Showcase.” It seems Sony is currently trying to move toward a new schedule similar to a Nintendo Direct, with major shows in February, June, and September. This more frequent format would also help to set realistic expectations while still giving us plenty to look forward to throughout the year.

What to Expect From the Show

The broadcast will feature news from first-party PlayStation studios, third-party partners, and indie developers. Because the show is so long, the community is already speculating on some “heavy hitters.”

Some of the biggest rumors and hopes include:

  • Possible teasers from Santa Monica Studio or Naughty Dog, as well as updates on Wolverine and Marathon.
  • PlayStation fans of third-party games are looking for news on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, Persona 6, or even the next Monster Hunter.
  • Classic Returns: There is always talk about a Bloodborne remaster or the next Metal Gear Solid collection.

How to Watch the State of Play

The State of Play begins this Thursday at 2 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. CEST. You can catch the live stream on the official PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels.

While it is easy to get caught up in the hype for “impossible” reveals like Bloodborne 2 or GTA 6, the 60-minute runtime almost guarantees that we will see at least a few major gameplay deep dives. It is a big week for gaming news, especially since this happens just one day after the Diablo 30th Anniversary stream, which is already exciting for a lot of gamers.
