Sony has filed a lawsuit against Tencent over the shared similarities between Horizon games and Tencent’s upcoming title, Light of Motiram. While the game has yet to be released, the Key Art of Light of Motiram looks unreasonably similar to that of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

And it doesn’t just stop at the Key Art. Sony reportedly claims that Light of Motiram features identical gameplay, themes, and visuals.

The Similarities Between Light Of Motiram And Horizon Games

Light of Motiram is being developed and published by Polaris Quest, which is a subsidiary of Tencent Games. The game is currently under development, and the final release date has yet to be announced.

The survival-crafting game features an open world overrun by colossal machines, called the Mechanimals. Humanity is scarce, and what few of them remain are in tribes. You’ll be able to train certain Mechanimals and fight against bosses alongside them.

All of this sounds a little bit too similar to Sony’s Horizon games, which also feature a similar setting and gameplay. Horizon Games also feature a post-apocalyptic world overrun by gigantic machines. Humans live in tribes, and you’ll have to fight against these huge mechanical bosses.

Tencent had approached Sony and asked for a licensing deal to develop its own Horizon game. Sony declined the deal, as reported in the complaint. However, Tencent still went on to work on Light of Motiram’s development.

As Light of Motiram’s playtest and promotions continued, Sony is now suing Tencent for Copyright and Trademark infringement. Furthermore, Sony has also included several Video Game publications in its complaint, which characterized the similarities between the Light of Motiram and Horizon games, alongside many Social Media posts.
