Starfield might not be done yet. According to multiple insiders and recent behind-the-scenes events, Bethesda appears to be preparing a much bigger update for the game than the usual patches and DLC drops.
Over the past weeks, content creators who attended a private Bethesda event focused on Starfield’s future. Although details are still under NDA, a few have already confirmed that new updates are coming and will be shared once the embargo lifts. That alone is reason enough to believe that something big is in the works.
A Cyberpunk-Style Turnaround?
Windows Central claims Bethesda’s goal could be to go for a Cyberpunk 2077 2.0-style update, addressing some of Starfield’s biggest criticisms. These reportedly include too many loading screens, disconnected space travel, and exploration that often feels flat. The idea is not just polish, but bigger systemic changes, especially around space gameplay and immersion.
Not everyone who attended the event agrees on how drastic the overhaul will be, but there seems to be a shared understanding that Bethesda is working on meaningful improvements, backed by updates to the Creation Engine.
New Platforms And A Last Big Push
At the same time, Starfield is rumored to be heading to PlayStation 5 in 2026, next to a possible Switch 2 version, even though there are quite a few technical challenges to running such a CPU-heavy game. These releases, together with major updates and potential final DLC, could represent Bethesda’s last big push for Starfield before putting more focus on The Elder Scrolls VI and future Fallout projects.
If true, the success of this update might decide if Starfield gets a real second life, or if it simply fades into Bethesda’s back catalog.
