After years of anticipation, Edmund McMillen is finally ready to unleash his next beautifully unhinged project. Teaming up once again with Closure and The End Is Nigh creator Tyler Glaiel, the duo’s turn-based tactical roguelite Mewgenics is officially set to launch on February 10, 2026.
What Is Mewgenics?
Mewgenics is a challenging, grotesque, and endlessly addictive roguelite built around collecting items, drafting abilities, and manipulating genetics across generations of battle-hardened cat armies. It’s exactly the kind of beautifully unsettling concept you’d expect from McMillen, and yes, it’s every bit as weird as it sounds.
Each day, you’ll assemble a squad from your ever-growing population of cats in Boon County. Every cat comes equipped with class-specific collars, letting them fill distinct roles like tank, mage, or support. Afterwards, once your team is ready, you’ll send them into the wild to tackle turn-based battles that demand smart positioning, environmental awareness, and devastating ability combos.

According to the Steam page, Mewgenics boasts a 200+ hour main campaign, 10+ character classes, and 75 unique abilities per class. Naturally, no true roguelite would be complete without an absurd amount of content—expect 900+ items alongside 200+ enemies and bosses to overcome.
From Simple to Infinitely Complex

Like the best roguelites, Mewgenics starts simple before spiraling into overwhelming depth. Early runs ease you into the systems, but before long, you’ll be making painful strategic decisions, uncovering broken synergies, and optimizing breeding chains across generations. Will your cats remain innocent and pure, or will you lean fully into the grotesque in pursuit of gold, power, and loot?
If any of that sounds up your alley, or you’re just curious to see what a turn-based cat genetics roguelite looks like, Mewgenics launches February 10, 2026, exclusively on Steam.
