Total War is officially back, and Creative Assembly just dropped their biggest project yet. After years of waiting, speculation, and endless “when are we getting 40k?” threads, it’s finally real: a Total War game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Total War: Warhammer 40k Is Here
The reveal landed during this year’s Game Awards, and Creative Assembly didn’t hold back. Instead of the usual pre-rendered fluff, fans were treated to actual, explosive gameplay: Ultramarines unleashing righteous fury on a massive Ork horde. And that was just the appetizer. We also got confirmation of the four factions launching with the game:
- Space Marines
- Orks
- Aeldari
- Astra Militarum
Wage War Across the Galaxy

Creative Assembly says this won’t just be another continental land grab. This time, we’re waging war across an entire galactic sandbox—fighting to control dozens of planets. And when things get too dire? You can unleash apocalyptic weaponry capable of wiping entire worlds off the map.
If everything shown so far holds true, this is set to be the largest, wildest Total War experience ever. The only question left: can they stick the landing?
The Fate of Total War: WARHAMMER III

For longtime fans, a 40k title felt almost inevitable. Total War: WARHAMMER III has been getting a series of End Times–focused updates—fitting, considering the Fantasy Warhammer timeline actually ends.
With these DLCs rolling out, it’s clear WARHAMMER III is approaching its conclusion. Hard to believe the Total War: Warhammer fantasy saga has been running nearly a decade—three full games, mountains of DLC, countless units and factions, all culminating into one massive, final package. And while it’s bittersweet, everyone knew the fantasy setting had to close eventually.
But when one age ends, another begins. If Warhammer III is nearing sunset, all we can hope is that the same passion, polish, and support carry directly into Total War: Warhammer 40k. Hopefully, Creative Assembly has learned a lot from the bumps and missteps along the fantasy trilogy’s long road.
Honestly, starting with only four factions is surprising—especially for 40k—but that’s probably tied to each faction having its own narrative campaign. And who knows… maybe this one also ends up with a triple-digit DLC count like its predecessor.
For now, keep an eye on our Other Games section as we dig deeper into everything coming next.
