Figuring out which stats to prioritize in Umamusume: Pretty Derby can be a real challenge. Each Umamusume needs different stats leveled based on their strategy and aptitude. In this guide, we’ll break down each stat in detail, which will give you a clear view of which stat to focus on.
Stats Breakdown

There are a total of five stats in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. You can train to improve these stats, but that costs Energy. Low Energy means a risk of failed training, which can tank their Mood and even cause injuries.
Fortunately, you can choose to rest to restore your Umamusume’s Energy. Resting restores energy, but it eats up a turn, a painful trade-off if you’re on a tight schedule!
When you select a specific training to increase an individual stat, it will also increase another stat, though not as much as the one you’re specifically training for. For example, Power training also slightly boosts your Stamina, which is a nice bonus.
Stats | Explaination | Secondary Stats Upgrades |
Speed | Speed defines your Umamusume’s maximum speed. It is extremely important, but keep in mind that you have to balance out your other stats as well. Otherwise, your Umas won’t be able to reach or maintain their maximum speed during a race. | Power |
Stamina | Stamina decides how long your Umamusume can continue to use their strategy during a race without exhausting themselves. It is more important if you’re taking part in longer races, but it can be neglected if you’re only doing short races. Stamina also affects the duration your Uma can maintain their top speed during a race. | Guts |
Power | Power affects acceleration and your Umamusume’s ability to overtake their opponents and break through crowds. It is essential for Umas that are using the Late-Surger or End-Closer strategies. | Stamina |
Guts | The Guts stat affects your character’s performance during the last spurt of the race. It is not as important as other stats, and can only be trained a few times if you’re running in long races. | Speed, Power |
Wit | Wit affects your skill activation rate and timing during a race. It also affects your Uma’s ability to maneuver crowds effectively and reduces the chances of mistakes, such as Late Start. Training Wit also slightly increases your Energy, instead of consuming it, and grants you additional Skill Points compared to other skills. | Speed |
Which Stats To Focus On In Umamusume: Pretty Derby?

It depends on your Umamusume and their preferred strategy, but overall, you should focus on Speed the most. After Speed, you can invest some points in Wit and Power. Raising Power will automatically raise Stamina, so you don’t have to train for it.
Wit is also another important stat that you’d want to focus on. Skills can turn the tide of the race in a matter of seconds. For that, you’ll need a high enough Wit to be able to activate the skills at the right time.
That said, don’t ignore Stamina or Guts, especially when they trigger key events. When those pop up, it’s worth doing them, even if they’re not your main focus. Stay on top of your Uma’s Energy, Mood, and strategy, and you’ll start steamrolling races in no time!
