The buzz around Valve’s upcoming new game, Deadlock, is back in full swing. With a recent update that has added a bunch of new features, including 6 new heroes, Deadlock’s player count has shot up significantly.
What is Deadlock?
For those who haven’t been keeping Tabs on Valve’s newest game. Deadlock is a third-person shooter MOBA that’s currently in early access. Currently, there is no official advertisement or known release date. Plus, the only way to play Deadlock is to be invited via a friend. Any friend who has played Deadlock can invite as many friends as they like, and those friends can then do the same.

While it’s a somewhat unconventional approach to getting players into an early access game, it has been working very well so far. During its all-time peak, Deadlock managed to have roughly around 717,000 players. Plus, with this newest update, Deadlock almost reached 51k concurrent players.
New Heroes & Hideout
The primary reason behind this sudden resurgence is the addition of six new heroes, including Mina the vampire, Billy the demonic goat, Paige, The Doorman, Victor the monster, and Drifter. However, rather than all of these heroes being added at once, players will vote on which one will be added in the following weeks in the new Hideout.

Speaking of the Hideout, this new level replaces the existing Dashboard UI and is your personal area to play around in while waiting for a match. The Hideout also allows you to invite your friends and access a practice range without needing to enter the Sandbox. Additionally, the Hideout plans to offer future opportunities for personalization, achievements, and events, ensuring it will likely continue to evolve with more features to enjoy in the future.

This update also introduces several additional features, including a new Character Select Screen, Hero Voting, and Map Updates. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the map has gone through several reworks, so the streets of the Cursed Apple might not be familiar if you haven’t played in a while.
So, if you’re looking for a new competitive MOBA or just want to see what all the fuss is about, there’s never been a better time than to try Deadlock. Or if you have played during the initial hype, now is a great time to come back. However, for new and old players, we highly recommend looking at the shop rework that dropped back in May.
