A new open-world gacha game may have just landed on a lot of players’ watchlists. It is not the first time we see it, since the game did get a CBT 1 before already, but it has been a long time since more information was released about it.

Wangyue (also known as Moon Gaze in English) has released a new trailer for its upcoming CBT 2 beta test, giving us another look at one of the more unusual anime-inspired open-world RPGs currently in development. You can watch it either on the official website or on Little Little Candy on YouTube:

The game still does not have a global release date, but the trailer confirms that its next closed beta test is scheduled for June 19-20. Sadly, it seems that it is only accessible for Chinese players, but at least they get another chance to explore its strange world.

A World Inspired by Chinese Mythology

Developed by Guangzhou Shiyue Network Technology, Wang Yue places players in the role of Qing Wu, individuals capable of confronting the mysterious “Nine World Suns” that distort reality.

The story draws inspiration from the famous Chinese myth of Houyi, the legendary archer who shot down multiple suns. It is mixing traditional themes with a modern urban setting.

More Than Just Another Open World RPG

What has many players paying attention to is how many different gameplay systems seem to be mixed into this game. Alongside the expected real-time combat and exploration, the older trailers show a ton of different things:

  • Collectible creatures known as Moon Spirits that fight alongside you
  • Large urban environments inspired by big cities
  • Vehicles and driving mechanics
  • A police system with possible jail mechanics
  • City management features
  • Construction and building systems similar to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The combination has led many to compare the game to a mix of Genshin Impact, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and even GTA. It will clearly be unique!

You can take a look at one of the previous trailers as well. You can see a little bit more of the game in this one:

In this one, you can spot the Moon Spirits, companion-like creatures that appear to play a big role in exploration and gameplay. Obviously, comparisons to Pokémon are inevitable, but Wang Yue seems to use its own capture and progression systems rather than directly copying Nintendo’s system.

For those who enjoy collecting companions alongside exploring large open worlds, this could end up being one of the game’s biggest selling points. In the new trailer, you can also see that there are a lot of ways to travel in this game, from cars to scooters, and even roller blades! And that is pretty cool too.

Still No Global Release Date

For now, Wang Yue remains in beta testing. The game is currently planned for PC, iOS, and Android, with console versions expected later. However, there is still no official release window for either China or a global launch.

That said, the newest trailer does mean that development is continuing at a good pace, and the project is starting to look really ambitious. Between the creature collecting, urban simulation systems, vehicle gameplay, and beautiful world, it seems a bit more original than most gacha games out there, and that is always a good thing.

Now it just needs to successfully combine all of those ideas into a proper experience, but it is definitely becoming a game worth keeping an eye on.
