One of the biggest reveals at the Gamescom 2025 was the return of the beloved Dawn of War series. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is set to return next year, after Dawn of War 3, which was released in 2017.
During an interview with PC Gamer, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4’s developers, King Arts Games, revealed that they intended to focus on single-player content and step away from the esports focus for the title. Players can expect to have more than 70 missions across four different campaigns in the upcoming Dawn of War.
King Art Games’ Vision For Dawn Of War 4
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is set to focus on single-player campaigns. Jan Theysen, Game Director, said in the interview that campaigns will be one of the “big pillars” for the game. King Art is determined to take the single-player focus to a new level by creating campaigns for each of the four factions in the game.
The focus on single-player content doesn’t mean there won’t be any multiplayer. Elliot Verbiest, the game designer, revealed in the interview that they are indeed working on multiplayer modes for fans who want to play with their friends or other players.
In another interview with PCGamesN, it was revealed that each of the campaigns will start with an opening CGI animation and include at least 40 minutes of cutscenes. Elliot said that he was personally inspired by games like Homeworld and Red Alert 2, and if you like those, you’re gonna love Dawn of War 4.
Fans also speculate that the RTS aspect of the franchise could make a comeback. However, King Art Games has made it clear that it wants to focus on casual fans, rather than the esports aspect of the title.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is set to release on PC in 2026. Hopefully, the series will return to its roots with the upcoming title, instead of continuing on the legacy of Dawn of War 3, which had a lot less single-player focus than the previous titles.
