Choosing a Sect in Where Winds Meet can feel overwhelming at first. Each one sort of changes the rules you have to follow, and even how NPCs react to you. The game never really tells you what they do or which one you should pick, and it can quickly become confusing!
This guide breaks down every Sect, what they are good for, and how to pick the one that fits you.
What Are Sects?
Sects are basically sort of “factions” you can join to unlock:
- Unique Martial Arts and weapon styles
- Special perks and buffs
- Exclusive Sect shops and cosmetics
- Roleplay rules that affect your gameplay
- Dedicated quests, Trials, and progression
You can also choose to stay Sectless, and this gives complete freedom. You will not miss too much from not joining any. It is mostly Sect Shops and exclusive cosmetics. Sectless players can steal Martial Arts through Skill Theft, but keep in mind that some skills are much harder to acquire this way. If you join a Sect, you get their specific skill directly.

You can leave, switch, or rejoin any Sect at any time, but quitting resets everything, and can put a bounty on your head. Loyalty is important, even if freedom is encouraged!
What Sect Should You Choose?
Here is a simple breakdown depending on what type of player you are:
- Want to play the hero and be a sort of “Robin Hood”? → Well of Heaven
- Support / healer main? → Silver Needle
- PvP player → Midnight Blades
- Love pranks, disguises, chaos? → Nine Mortal Ways
- Like poison + healing mix, and complex mechanics? → Hollow Vale
- Scholar / strategic player? → Inkbound Order or Mohist Hill
- Warrior with spear? → Raging Tides
- Charm, romance, seduction-focused? → Velvet Shade
- Art, music, dance, non-combat fantasy? → Masked Troupe
- Swordmaster with tactical gameplay? → Lone Cloud
This is just an overview to make it simple, but below is a full breakdown of every known Sect so far, and how to join them!

Joining, Leaving, and Rejoining Sects
In order to join a Sect, you need to:
- Solve the specific clues given in game per Sect
- Find the Sect Elder or NPC linked to it
- Complete their initiation quest or Trial
- If your actions match their values, some Trials can be skipped, and they directly send you an invitation
On the other hand, you can leave a sect at any time! But keep in mind that your rank and everything else linked to the sect you just left will reset. A bounty can even trigger, letting others hunt you down!
You are also allowed to rejoin any time, but you restart from zero inside the Sect.
As mentioned earlier, not all the Sects are available to join on global right now. For the time being, you can only pick between:
- Well of Heaven
- Silver Needle
- Raging Tides
- Midnight Blades
- Nine Mortal Ways
In the end, there is no “best” Sect in Where Winds Meet, only the one that feels right for how you want to play. The game gives you total freedom to your own path.
Try a few, switch when you want, and see what actually clicks with you, or if you just want to remain Sectless!
