Spoiler Warning: This guide contains story spoilers related to character deaths in Where Winds Meet. Continue only if you have already passed Chapter 1 – Heaven Has No Pier.
Where Winds Meet does not tell you this, but after certain story events, you can unlock two deeply meaningful cosmetic items tied to fallen characters. These are not just skins, they are hidden mini storylines that let you honor their memory and literally carry them with you on your journey. And the quests to unlock them are completely hidden unless you know where to look.
“Dream in Flames” – Yi Dao’s Lost Chapter
After the end of Chapter 1 – Heaven Has No Pier, you can go back to Blissful Retreat to start the hidden quest.

Travel to the Blissful Retreat teleport after the village has been burned down, and from there:
- Head toward the highest building, the temple on top
- Look for the photo icon on the map
- Near it, you will find a burned tree
- At the base of the tree, you will see a blade stuck in the ground
- Interact with the sword

This will teleport you into a dream realm and unlocks the quest called “Dream in Flames,” Yi Dao’s Lost Chapter. You will enter a dream version of Blissful Retreat. Inside this realm, make sure to also explore the area, since you can find a few chests, collectibles, and even a ton of mini-games!
Follow the quest, and you will eventually face Yi Dao as a boss. The fight is not too difficult, but you should still pay attention to a few things:
- You can parry most attacks
- You should dodge the triple illusion strike instead of blocking it
- Use Celestial Seize (the Mystic power) when he wants to use his 3-hit slash AoE attack to cancel it
After defeating him, continue the story all the way to the festival section, and watch the final cutscene. You will wake up soon after to the harsh reality, and receive Killerblade’s sword as a cosmetic.
Keep in mind that this is not a cosmetic specific to any weapon. It is an accessory that will display on your back. You can equip it through the appearance menu. It is also important to note that some weapon types can visually block it. You may want to disable weapon visibility outside combat to keep it visible.
You can also return to the dreamscape at any time by interacting with the sword again at the tree, so do not worry if you think you missed a chest, you can always go back.
“Her Legacy” – Ruby’s Treasure Hunt
This quest is related to Ruby this time. It is a bit longer than the previous one, and it is a big treasure hunt. The goal will be to find the proper clues, and find the locations, until you make it to the last place.
The quest can also be started once you finished Chapter 1 – Heaven Has No Pier. You have to follow a few steps:

- Teleport to Heaven’s Pier
- Head to the brewery
- Look between jars on the shelves
- Find and interact with a scroll

This triggers the encounter quest called “Her Legacy.” The scroll you just picked up is a treasure map left by Ruby for you, and it contains the first clue.
Treasure Hunt Step 1 – Peace Bell Tower

From the brewery:
- Go left and up the mountain where the waterfall it. You can go all the way to the top
- Cross the small river until the game tells you that you made it to Peace Bell Tower

You will find:
- A small lake
- Stone Budda statues
- An old man fishing
Talk to the old angler, you will have to beat him in a fishing competition. If you need a rod or bait, you can buy them in Heaven’s Pier. After winning, you will receive a new treasure map and a letter.
Step 2 – General’s Shrine

Read the letter and check the map. After that, teleport to the General’s Shrine. Head inside the shrine area and use your Wind Sense to locate a pile of pots/jars:
- Break the pots in front of the building on the right side after the entrance
- Read the note
- Talk to the NPC named “Sweeping Villager“

He will give you another map with the next clue.
Step 3 – Kilnfire Ridge

This one is a bit harder. You want to teleport to Kilnfire Ridge, near the Emperor Chai Temple. Once there:
- Head left toward the upper buildings
- Listen for chopping sounds
- Find and talk to the woodcutter

He will give you the next clue. From the woodcutter’s location, jump across the ledge, onto the Emperor Chai Temple’s rooftop. Somewhere on the roof there will be another treasure map, pick it up. It is near a hole in the roof.

Step 4 – Bamboo Abode
You are getting closer to the end! Teleport to the Northern Bamboo Grove.

When you arrive, from the teleport stone, head up the mountain. You basically want to go to the area where at the start of the game you met an NPC with Ruby that was shooting at birds and almost shot you. This is the same location you need to go to.

When you get there, talk to the other NPC shooting birds:
- Complete the bow competition
- If you win, he gives you another letter
The letter sends you to the last location, where everything started, the Bamboo Grove Hut.
Final Step – Ruby’s Goodbye
From the previous location, you can teleport or travel by foot to the Bamboo Retreat. It is not very far, and more immersive if you walk there.

When you arrive at the hut, you need to pay attention:
- Be careful, you may notice a bag full of cut heads and a bloody note, ignore these for now, they are for another quest. If you triggered that quest, just make sure you do not change into Jiang’s clothes
- Look outside, behind the hut, next to steps

- Pick up Ruby’s letter
- Enter the hut and meditate
This will make you enter a dream again, where you will be able to speak with Ruby one last time. After the slightly emotional speech, the quest will complete, and you will receive Ruby’s Red Knot as a cosmetic.
Similar to the sword, you can equip it through your Appearance menu, and under accessories. It will display on your wrist like a bracelet. Make sure to always keep it with you, so your Twin Hero can always be by your side.

These items might just be cosmetics, but they feel more like quiet promises that those we lost are never truly gone. Sometimes, all it takes is a blade in the dirt or a red knot on your wrist to remember that no one is ever really lost.
