Where Winds Meet Progress Guide: What You Should Focus On

Where Winds Meet gives you tons of freedom, but it barely explains that a lot of your power growth actually comes from daily and weekly systems.

If you have ever felt like you are “missing something” or progressing slower than expected, you probably are. The game silently expects you to build small routines.

Here is what you should focus on, without turning your playtime into a chore list.

The Stamina System

Mental Energy is the game’s stamina system, and once it hits the cap, any extra regeneration is simply lost. The game does not flash huge warnings at you, so it is very easy to waste hours of potential progress without realizing it.

This system is meant to push you toward short, focused activities instead of endless wandering.

Spend Mental Energy on the following activities when you log in:

  • Select Wandering Paths in your menu, and go inside the Challenges:
    • Campaign Challenges – You can fight the bosses from the campaign that you already defeated for more gear, XP, coins, and more. Each boss also has a small chance to drop a unique cosmetic for you.
    • Outposts Challenges – You will have to clear each outpost completely. They offer materials, cosmetics, XP, coins, and more. Once completed, the outposts have a 24h cooldown before they reset.
    • Sword Trials and Hero’s Round – Those two challenges can be fought in co-op. You can either group up in a team with friends and start the challenge, or matchmake with random players. You can also enter alone in some of them, but keep in mind that those challenges are quite hard, and the assist counter mechanic does not work in there. You can also team up with AI companions. The sword trials will reward way more chests and items if you do them with actual players. You will only get half of the rewards if you do them alone or with AI.

When your energy is empty, you can replenish it with an item called Pillow Powder; however, you do not want to use it too early in your journey, as you will need those later on once you want to farm for better, specific gear. So as you level up, simply focus on spending the energy you already have.

Your Home Is Very Useful

Your “home” in Where Winds Meet is not just for cool screenshots! It also gives you two free daily hairstyles.

Using the combing interaction, the mirror gives you two hairstyles for free (per day)! You can learn more about that in our guide for free hairstyles!

Sects Are a Slow-Burn Progression System

Joining a sect feels like a roleplay choice at first, but it is actually a long-term reward track.

Daily sect missions build weekly reputation, and that reputation unlocks cosmetics and special items. The game caps how much reputation you can earn per week, so that means skipping days permanently limits your progress for that week.

If you are in a sect, your goal should be to:

  • Complete daily sect missions
  • Reach the weekly reputation cap (1,200)
  • Spend reputation in the Sect Shop before reset

If you are not sure which sect to pick or how they differ, our full sect guide has everything you need.

Weekly Currencies That Decide Your Progress

Jade Fish is where most players either play smart… or regret their choices later.

You will earn them passively by just playing, but spending them carelessly can slow your progression for weeks. The shop looks harmless, but only certain items really matter early on.

Best weekly items to buy:

  • Martial Arts Combat Tips chests
  • Inner Way Note Chests
  • (Optional) Oscalating Jades if you have spare currency
  • Under the appearance tab, at the bottom, you can get one Lingering Melody per week. Pick it up, as those are the items you need to draw in the cosmetic banner
  • If you picked up Healer and/or Scholar professions:
    • Career Notebook
    • Scholar Giftbox
    • Healer Giftbox
    • Custom Career Giftbox

What to avoid early:

  • RNG-heavy gear chests, at least during early levels they are not the most useful pick

Do not forget to check out the vendor shops as well; they often have materials that also reset weekly.

The Real Way to Play Efficiently

Keep in mind that in theory, there are no real “dailies” to do each day or week, so you will not miss out on stuff. The tips in this guide are meant to help you min-max your progression.

Even if you just spend your energy every day and check out the shops once a week, you will naturally keep up without feeling like the game turned into a second job.
