Where Winds Meet: Solo, Co-Op, and MMO Modes Explained

Where Winds Meet is a massive game with a ton of freedom, not just in how you explore, but in how you choose to play. The game mixes single-player adventure, open-world RPG exploration, combat, MMO, and co-op systems all in one place. If you are confused about Solo, Co-op, or MMO… you are definitely not the only one.

Here is a clean and friendly breakdown of what each mode really brings, who it is for, and how to switch between them without going insane.

Solo Mode – RPG Experience

If you want a peaceful world that feels like it is your own little story, Solo Mode is where you will spend most of your time.

You can explore freely, complete every quest, battle world bosses, collect materials, heal NPCs, play minigames, and more. NPCs populate the world normally, so it keeps the atmosphere grounded and story-focused.

You can also summon NPC allies for some boss fights (similar to how Elden Ring does it), or adjust the difficulty between Story, Normal, Nightmare, or soon even Hardcore.

Guilds, friendships, and gifts still work here, so being a solo player does not mean you are cut off socially.

It is perfect for:

  • Story progression
  • Exploration and screenshots
  • Bosses you want to challenge solo or with NPCs
  • A chill, uninterrupted RPG experience

In solo mode, you will skip large guild events, raids, marriages/bonds, and any content that requires a shared online world.

Co-Op Mode

Co-op Mode is similar ot the previous one, but you summon your friends from the friends list to do some co-op. You create or join a team through the Social menu, pick what you want to do, and jump in.

You can then do all the co-op activities together like World Bosses, Strongholds, Group Dungeons (Guild or non-Guild), Trials, Arenas, Adventures, Outposts, Bounties, Minigames (Pitch Pot and more), and more!

It is important to note that rewards in Team Mode are better than in Solo Mode, which makes it great for farming. Co-op mode is perfect for small friend groups that want a few more rewards and do not want to do events alone.

You can invite up to 4 friends visiting. Your world state is preserved, you progress the quests, and your friends are just there to hang out, fight, or explore. It is relaxed, social, and perfect for helping a friend catch up or messing around together.

In co-op, you can earn the following rewards:

  • Earn up to 1,000 cooperation points/week for helping others.
  • Use points to buy cosmetics, materials, titles, and emotes.
  • Gain honor titles through reputation and altruism.

There is also a penalty system: Players lose honor for griefing or sabotaging others; repeated offenses can even cause temporary bans.

On top of that, you have a unique healing and rescue mechanic where you can heal or revive each other, adding a social survival element.

MMORPG Mode – The Big Online World

This is where the game turns into a full MMO: a massive shared world with tons of real players, chats, and more. Here, you will not really progress the story, but instead, you get stuff like:

  • Guild raids and group activities
  • Massive PvP battles
  • Marriages, Bonds, Hero Unions
  • Rumor events and social gatherings
  • Training, healing, world events
  • Bounty hunts and even a battle royale mode
  • Multiple weekly goals for gear, skills, and rare items

It feels more like a massive social hub, perfect for guild content, more social interactions, large-scale battles, things like roleplay, world events, and more!

Switching Modes – It Is Instant and Free

You will have to select one on the character screen, but luckily, picking one mode at the start of the game does not lock you inside of it. You can swap between modes anytime, and there is no cooldown.

Each mode changes the interface, gameplay pace, and player interactions.

Solo or Online – What Should You Play?

Choose Solo Mode if:

  • You want story progression
  • You prefer a “classic RPG” feeling
  • You mainly play alone
  • You only want co-op sometimes

Choose MMO Mode if:

  • You want guilds, raids, or PvP
  • You like meeting random players
  • You want to chill in a social hub
  • You enjoy MMO vibes

Both share the same character progression, so you can jump back and forth whenever you feel like.

Where Winds Meet does not force you into anything; it really lets you enjoy the game in any way you want. Play alone, team up with friends, or play inside the MMO world… all on the same character, with zero friction!
