Higgs was one of the most dangerous and chaotic forces in Death Stranding. Now that he is confirmed to return in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, players are wondering – what was his deal again?
Let us catch up on who Higgs is and why he will most likely, once again, be a very important character in Death Stranding 2.
The Guy Who Wanted to End the World
Higgs started out as just another porter, but something changed when he got involved with Fragile Express, Amelie, and the Beach. He became obsessed with extinction, death, and the idea that humanity needed to be wiped clean.
By the time we meet him, he is calling himself the “Man Who Delivers” – but instead of packages, he brings destruction. He can control BTs, teleport through the Beach, and manipulate voidouts. His whole vibe resembles an End-of-the-world cult leader with a golden mask and no moral brakes.
His real name is Peter Englert, and it was later revealed that he killed his abusive uncle as a child – an act that awakened his DOOMS abilities. This trauma is a huge part of his backstory, fueling both his powers and his outlook on humanity.
Sam’s Mirror – and Total Opposite
Higgs exists to challenge everything Sam stands for. Where Sam wants to rebuild connections, Higgs wants to burn them all down. He believes extinction is inevitable, and he wants to be the one to speed it up.

That final confrontation in the original game (Death Stranding 1), where the boss fight turns into a bare-knuckle brawl on the Beach, is still one of the most memorable moments in the whole game.
He is not just a cartoon villain. Higgs genuinely believes that wiping the slate clean is better than letting the world slowly rot. That twisted logic makes him one of the most unsettling and memorable antagonists Kojima has ever written.
Is Higgs Actually Back in DS2?
Yes. Troy Baker is reprising his role, and the trailers for Death Stranding 2 show Higgs with a strange guitar-like weapon that can fire energy projectiles, and what looks like a red armored mech suit. How he survived (or came back) is still a mystery, but his return is 100% confirmed.
Kojima even said that Higgs is “100 times wilder” this time around – and joked that players might want to throw their controllers when facing him again.
There are also hints of a cult or group centered around him, possibly suggesting he is not acting alone. His motives might have changed, but the threat level seems higher than ever.

And knowing Higgs, he is not just here to play second fiddle this time. He might be an even bigger threat than before…
