We previously covered reports of rumors suggesting that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could receive a third expansion years after launch. Now, recent claims from IGN Poland, which were also echoed by multiple insiders, add new details on its setting, scope, and purpose.
According to these reports, the expansion has been known internally for years and may finally be approaching an official reveal.
A New Map With A Desert Setting
Possibly the greatest detail is the rumored new map, which is supposedly going to take place in a desert environment. Multiple sources point toward Zerrikania as the most likely location.
Zerrikania has existed in Witcher lore for a long time, but has never been fully explored in the games. If true, this would introduce a completely different vibe and visual style compared to the regions seen so far in The Witcher 3.
Blood And Wine-Sized
The expansion is described as being similar in scope to Blood and Wine, which would mean it will be a large, standalone-style experience rather than a small DLC. That would make it a significant addition, even this late into the game’s lifecycle.
Bridging Witcher 3 And Witcher 4
Another recurring detail is that the expansion would bridge the gap between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4, which is expected to focus on Ciri.
Rather than changing Geralt’s ending, the new content could help players to prepare for the next chapter of the Witcher universe and provide a better flow of the narrative transition.
Platforms, Development, And Release Window
The reports suggest the expansion would release only on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, leaving last-gen consoles behind. Development is reportedly handled by Fool’s Theory, the studio currently working on The Witcher 1 Remake, with CD Projekt Red overseeing the project.
A May release window has been mentioned, but this remains highly speculative. Although multiple Polish insiders, analysts, and IGN Poland have stated that the expansion exists, CD Projekt Red has not officially announced it yet.

As amazing as a new Witcher 3 DLC would be, for now, all details should be treated as reports rather than confirmed information. Nevertheless, the growing consistency across sources makes this the strongest set of rumors so far!
