As we roll into the new year, more and more rumors are starting to pop up about upcoming remakes and long-awaited sequels. The word on the street is that Bethesda is gearing up for some big projects, including Wolfenstein 3, alongside potential Fallout remakes that fans have been hoping for.
MachineGames Is Back on Wolfenstein 3
With Bethesda’s 40th anniversary coming up, there’s a lot of speculation that we could see some major reveals. Fans are already expecting a Fallout 3 remake, and now signs are pointing toward a possible New Vegas remake as well. But according to a report from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, MachineGames may also be juggling multiple projects — with Wolfenstein 3 being the most likely candidate.
It makes sense, too. A Wolfenstein TV series is reportedly in the works for Amazon, and if that sounds familiar, it should. We’ve already seen how well this kind of crossover works with Fallout. Pairing a game release or announcement alongside a show has become a proven strategy.
Just look at Cyberpunk and Edgerunners, League of Legends and Arcane, or the recent surge in Fallout players after Season 2 of the Fallout series dropped. These kinds of partnerships have had a pretty solid track record, so Wolfenstein getting the same treatment feels more than possible.
Other Possible Titles
Of course, Wolfenstein isn’t the only name being tossed around. There are also rumors that MachineGames could be working on a Rainbow Six Siege–style multiplayer title, which would be a big shift for the studio.
And then there’s the wildcard: older franchises. Games like Quake and Hexen immediately come to mind. It’s been years since either of them has seen real attention, but with the recent success of the modern DOOM games, reviving classic FPS series doesn’t seem that far-fetched.
