WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers just launched, and it is already getting a ton of players on Steam. In fact, the game reached over 114,000 concurrent players, making it one of the most-played soulslikes not made by FromSoftware.

That is a really impressive milestone for developer Leenzee and publisher 505 Games. The only other non-FromSoftware Souls-like game to get that kind of player count was Black Myth: Wukong. Some players might argue that Wukong is not a Souls-like, and just an Action RPG, but either way, it is a great achievement for both Wuchang and Wukong!
High Player Count, but Not High Reviews
Of course, reviews are always subjective, and they do not always represent what a game really is. Despite the high player count, the game’s Steam reviews are currently more mixed and negative, and there is one main reason, that is the performance.
Players are reporting problems like:
- A lot of frame drops
- Heavy stuttering that makes you die for no reason
- Lag during combat
- Unoptimized visuals even on good hardware
Some players even compared the launch to a stress test, saying that even if the core gameplay feels fun and promising, the performance problems are dragging everything down. Others are hoping a patch drops soon will fix it.
Soulslike Hype Is Real
Still, the huge launch numbers show just how a lot of players do love the dark, challenging Soulslike RPGs. WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers does stand out with its setting and more, so it definitely has potential. And with DLSS 4 support for NVIDIA RTX players, performance should, in theory, have been a really good. But for now, it seems many players are fighting the frame rate as much as the bosses.
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is clearly one of those games that be a really good game to play, and it is breaking Steam records already. Now all that is left, is to see if Leenzee can stabilize the performance issues fast enough to keep players on it before they decide to move on to something else.
