Wuchang: Fallen Feathers’ latest update turns certain historically significant bosses unkillable, causing them to become exhausted and non-hostile after being defeated, instead of dying right away.
The change in censorship is likely a result of backlash from the Chinese player base. Furthermore, you’re no longer able to kill certain innocent enemies, which was an easy way to build up your madness meter before the update.
Historically Significant Bosses Can No Longer Be Killed In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
As pointed out by Lance McDonald, a popular Soulslike games analyst on Twitter/X, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers’ patch 1.5, which was released on August 12, changes the exhaust animation for certain NPCs to improve plot performance.
The change has made it so that certain bosses no longer die, but instead become non-hostile NPCs that Wuchang can interact with. Before the update, these bosses would immediately die when being defeated in the boss battle, turning to dust.
These changes in censorship drastically affect the player experience, as well as the game’s plot, which revolves around Wuchang ending the lives of many prominent historical figures from the Ming Dynasty to advance her cause.
However, this wasn’t the only change in patch 1.5, as many adjustments were also made to make the game easier. Invincibility frames on the get-up animation were adjusted, and the healing animation was also sped up slightly.
Furthermore, the update also reduced the damage of landmines in Chapters 2 and 3, and certain primary enemies were made easier to interrupt using light weapons.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had seen amazing numbers on its launch, which were quickly affected by a bombardment of negative reviews due to the game’s optimization. The devs behind Wuchang: Fallen Feathers have released many updates and patches since then to fix many issues.
However, the recent change in censorship is nothing short of questionable, and also affects the game’s reputation in the public eye.
