Xbox adds more streaming options to PC

Game Pass Members Get More Options

A big update for Xbox just landed, and not just for the consoles. In a blog post, the company announced new additions to the Xbox app for PC users. Earlier in the year, Game Pass Ultimate members gained the feature to stream their own games on Xbox consoles and supported devices. The company has now added that feature to the Xbox PC app!

Ultimate members on PC can now stream 250+ select games via the Xbox PC app. Even better, some of the included games were previously console exclusive. There’s a couple conditions: you need to own the game, and you need to be in one of the 28 countries where Xbox cloud gaming is supported. Players can go to the cloud gaming section on the PC app and choose the “stream your own game option.”

More Functionality Added

Xbox insiders with an ultimate pass will also have access to all cloud-playable games in their Xbox PC app library. It seems those players are spoiled for choice for where and how they want to play the games they own. Xbox has also made it possible to preview game history across devices, letting players pick up where they left off. On top of that, PC users can now track progress towards Xbox rewards easier. The rest of the blog also reviews previous updates including accessibility tags, a limited Meta Quest 3S promotion, and dynamic backgrounds for the Series X|S consoles. The full list of streamable games can be found at the bottom of the blog post as well.

The Latest in the Multiplatform Trend

The improved PC streaming comes at a time when console manufacturers are trending towards putting more games on other platforms. Playstation recently put up a job post for a senior multiplatform manager, and rumor has it Gears of War: E-Day is headed to the PS5 as well. Nintendo likely doesn’t feel any pressure to embrace the console crossover trend, but for Microsoft and Sony, the console wars may very well be over.
