Yakuza 0 Gets Removed Soon and Replaced by the Director’s Cut

SEGA and the RGG team recently shared a massive update for the series’ 20th anniversary, and it comes with a mix of cool upgrades, surprising delistings, and some frustration from longtime fans.

Starting December 8, updated versions of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

The catch, however, is that several older versions of these games will disappear from storefronts on the same day.

The Big Changes on December 8

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will replace the original version entirely.

The original Yakuza 0 on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam will be delisted at 08:30 am PST.

If you already own it digitally before that time, you keep access, and you can upgrade to Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut for $14.99.

The Director’s Cut adds:

  • New cutscenes
  • English dub
  • Extra text language support (FR, IT, DE, ES, LATAM ES, BR PT, RU)
  • A new online co-op mode called Red Light Raid
  • The original bubble-era theme song finally restored

Save data will not transfer, and the upgrade does not apply to Game Pass, PS+, or physical copies.

Updated Versions of Kiwami and Kiwami 2

Both Kiwami titles (Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2) are also getting updated versions with additional text support and restored music tracks.

Yakuza Kiwami (Updated Version):

  • New languages added
  • Receive You [Reborn] and Bleed restored
  • Digital owners on PS4/Xbox One can upgrade for $1.99
  • Regular price: $19.99
  • Save data does not transfer

Yakuza Kiwami 2 (Updated Version):

  • New languages added
  • Free upgrade for existing PS4/Xbox One digital owners
  • Save data does not transfer

Steam versions with the new text options also launch on December 8. However, upgrade paths for those versions are still unknown.

Delistings to Be Aware Of

The PS4, Xbox One, and Steam versions of Yakuza 0 will be removed from these platforms on December 8 at 08:30 am PST. Windows 10 versions of Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 are going to be delisted on the same day, December 8, at 09:00 am PST.

However, existing owners keep access and can re-download the games even after the delisting.

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will replace the old version inside the Yakuza Complete Series bundle.

The Community Is Not Sure How to Feel

The upgrades themselves look good, but reactions are a bit mixed.
Fans of Yakuza are voicing a lot of excitement around restored music and new language support, but also plenty of frustration:

  • No upgrade path for physical copies
  • No upgrades for PS+ or Game Pass players
  • Save data not carrying over
  • Delisting the originals feels unnecessary to some fans

A lot of players say the announcement feels like a step backward after several years of goodwill.

RGG also confirmed the next releases: Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, both coming February 12, 2026.
