Demonology Warlock PvP Azerite Traits and Essences (BfA / Patch 8.3)
Azerite Traits and Essences, introduced in Battle for Azeroth, need to be chosen correctly, to ensure optimal performance. On this page, we explain how to pick your major and minor essences and which traits are best.
This page is part of our Demonology Warlock PvP Guide.
Azerite Essences for Demonology Warlocks
Essences allow players to customize their characters while adding a new ability to use. This section will cover the best overall Azerite Essences for Demonology Warlocks in PvP.
For a general guide to all the essences, as well as how to obtain them and increase their ranks, check out our Essence guide.
Before reading this page, you should have a good understanding of the PvP playstyle of a Demonology Warlock. So we advise you to read our dedicated page on the subject.
Vision of Perfection is a solid Major Essence. If you are not worried about having Nether Ward baseline, this will increase your overall damage output by randomly activating Summon Demonic Tyrant. This is one of your major offensive cooldowns and overall Vision of Perfection is a great choice.
Conflict and Strife is another solid Major Essence to have. Conflict gives you Nether Ward as a baseline ability. Because Nether Ward is used in matchups against spell casters, this should be used when playing against teams with spell damage.
In addition to having a Major Essence, you can choose two Minor Essences to place in your neck at Heart of Azeroth Levels 55 and 65.
Memory of Lucid Dreams gives your spells and abilities a chance to refund Soul Shards you used and heal you. This is great for increasing your damage, as you will frequently be refunded Soul Shards throughout a match.
Vision of Perfection reduces the cooldown of Summon Demonic Tyrant. This is your primary burst cooldown that already has a relatively short cooldown. Being able to use Demonic Tyrant more often will give you more windows of opportunity to get a kill.
Azerite Traits for Demonology Warlocks
Azerite traits are unlocked in you helm, shoulders and chest. With each Azerite level in your neck, you get closer to unlocking the center trait in your gear. These traits vary from increasing damage or healing of certain abilities to helping increase your survivability. Depending on what traits you use, it can completely alter your playstyle and what talents you should be using.

Below are the best Outer Ring traits.
Baleful Invocation drastically increases your burst damage. Supreme Commander gives you a large buff after your Summon Demonic Tyrant expires. A very good trait for increasing your damage when your burst cooldown is used. Demonic Meteor increases your overall damage output and has a chance to refund you a Soulshard
Below are the best Middle Ring traits.
The Middle and Inner Rings are important for additional damage. Elemental Whirl, Overwhelming Power, and Earthlink give an increase to your stats. These are minor stat boosts, but still increase your damage. Heed My Call will help increase both your single target and spread pressure.
Below are the best Inner Ring traits.
All of these traits give you additional ways of surviving. These are all passive, but are crucial to have.
