Is Titan Reforged Stealing Players from Remix and Retail?

The sixteenth week of Mythic+ of this season is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO. The week before the final TWW patch, numbers kept dropping, but once again, we saw a difference between China and the other regions. 12.90% fewer runs were completed globally. Meanwhile, Remix continued its decline, showing another week of losses of more than 30%. But beyond this, another mode of WoW might be luring players away from Retail and Remix. So, let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

The global drop of 12.90% from the previous week is split into just 4.33% on the four regular regions and a massive 20.69% on the Chinese servers. In the long-term comparison, restricted to EU, US, KR, and TW, the season seems to have hit the floor by now. TWW S3 is now more than 85% below its first week. Other seasons would also get to this level within their final weeks.

The global share of activity for Chinese players dropped quite a lot this week. While representing 52.37% in the previous week, we are now looking at 47.68%. And compared to week 14, their numbers have dropped by one-third so far. And what started on November 18th? The Titan Reforged Classic servers. They seem to be really popular and draw attention from all modes in the region. Their appeal has also reached the Western WoW audience. A lot of Classic WoW streamers have gone through a few extra steps to play on these servers. Who knows if Blizzard will also launch them in the other regions?

Remix activity dropped by 33.19% compared to the previous week. On the Chinese servers, the numbers fell by 41.81%. This is yet another indicator of the move over to the Titan Reforge servers. The only ones that seem to hold onto Remix M+ a bit longer are the US players. In the final Remix weeks, they might be representing the largest share.

Total Runs Across All S3 Dungeons

The dungeon split has shrunk once again. Ara-Kara no longer trails behind as much as in the rest of the season. The order within the lower half seems to be shuffled constantly. But all these dungeons see numbers rather close to each other week by week. The success rate of 88.72% is 0.43 points higher than in week 15. It’s once again the 2nd highest after the first Turbo Boost week.

Gambit (93.36%), once again, managed to beat Eco-Dome (93.03%) as the easiest dungeon. This might be due to the Devour affix. It is the only buffed affix in Midnight. We have yet to see how well healers can deal with it after all these changes. Streets of Wonder (91.18%) and Halls of Attonement (89.63%) close off the upper half. The Dawnbreaker (86.92%) and Priory (86.17%) lead the lower half. And Floodgate (84.64%) is comfortably ahead of Ara-Kara (82.10%). The Devour affix seems to be the least impactful for this dungeon.

Split Across All S3 Key Levels

79.86% of all runs were completed at level 10 and higher. 25% on key level 10 alone. Less than half of all keys were done at level 12 and higher. Key level 12 was still the most popular with 27.24%. But the activity shifted more towards the lower keys, especially below key level 8. This could be an indicator of new characters in general or from the Remix servers farming gear in trivial content. The highest 3 key levels still see increasing activity. But below that, the number from level to level is trending towards stagnation instead of the usual exponential increase.

The increase in the success rate is quite obvious for lower key levels. It once again reflects the easiest of all affixes this season. The drop-off from level 6 to 7 is still quite noticeable at 5.65 percentage points. Meanwhile, the difference between levels 9 and 10 is a staggering 8.76 points. The developers should give Fortified and Tyrannical another tuning pass with Midnight to make sure that the progression towards higher keys is a bit smoother.

Legion Remix Dungeon Split

The split of all dungeons also decreased for Remix in week 16. But the order shifted a bit. The biggest outlier was the Seat of Triumvirate, which dropped from rank 5 in the previous week down to second to last. The RP sections and RNG spawns for the 2nd boss trigger were already unpopular during Legion. The mechanics in Retail have changed a lot for its re-release in Season 1 of Midnight. But we have yet to see if the average player can deal with it as the Beta testers do.

Legion Remix Key Level Split

The top-end key level at 181 was once again lower than in the previous week. Unless another gear power spike occurs with the final Remix update, level 187 seems to be the ceiling for this mode. And the affix rotation will determine if another record is possible. Activity in the peak level range is still comparatively high, even though it barely exceeds the double digits on individual levels.

Mythic+ Run Data by RaiderIO

Only 74.27% of all keys were done at level 20 and above. It seems that the decline in activity is driven more and more by less interest in the cosmetic rewards. The share of keys for level 30 has dropped from 11.15% to 10.80%, week by week. And for level 40, the value decreased from 4.26% to 3.87%. Level 50 also dropped from 2.81% to 2.50%. Clearing all raids on Mythic in just over 1 hour has become the most popular choice for the power grind.

Conclusion and Week 16 Forecast

Unlike other seasons, TWW S3 is massively impacted by different modes and gameplay incentives. The release of pre-order housing is also going to draw attention away from this gearing source towards the true endgame: Cosmetics!

As of this writing, 144 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers for the main regions show another major decline. They are down to 35% for the US and just 25% for the EU servers. Chinese metrics are behind by 30%. And here it might not just be housing, but also the Titan Reforged server launch impacting it. The next round-up is going to be quite interesting.
