1. Uldir Boss Tips for Protection Paladins

This page will focus on how to best prepare as a Protection Paladin for the Uldir raid, rather than a general guide for the instance. Do note that most of this information is gathered from Beta testing the raids, and over the next few weeks there will be many updates to reflect any undocumented changes made that are discovered on live servers, compared to Beta, so make sure to check back often for updates. Initially, this page will focus on Heroic mode and lower, however as more bosses are being killed on Mythic, the guide will also include optimizations for Mythic bosses.

1.1. Talent Cheatsheet

Taloc M.O.T.H.E.R. Fetid Devourer Zek'voz, Herald of N'Zoth Vectis Zul, Reborn Mythrax the Unraveler G'huun

2. Taloc

In Phase One when the boss casts Cudgel of Gore Icon Cudgel of Gore on you, you want to try to clear as much of the red Blood Storm Icon Blood Storm pools on the ground as possibly by running out to them before his cast finishes. This is a good time for Divine Steed Icon Divine Steed and if it becomes a consistent problem you can spec into Cavalier Icon Cavalier. The Cudgel of Gore will deal high Shadow damage when he reaches you, and as it is magic damage it is not reduced by Shield of the Righteous Icon Shield of the Righteous and you need to be full health to survive the hit. Always make sure to help healing yourself up right before the hit with Light of the Protector Icon Light of the Protector or use a cooldown. You can always immune the damage with Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding as well as Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield should you need to.

For Phase Two, make sure to help your raid with stunning or soaking the Volatile Droplets, while tanking the Coalesced Blood. Fist of Justice Icon Fist of Justice can help with stunning more frequently. You can soak the Volatile Droplets by walking into them, thus they will not need to be killed, this does however deal damage and knock you back so only do it if you can do it safely and not get knocked off the elevator.

Phase Three is very similar to Phase One with Cudgel of Gore Icon Cudgel of Gore, but you also get the Volatile Droplets that you should aim to run over as long as you have enough health when not actively tanking the boss. Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding as well as Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield are excellent in case you need to quickly burst a few at the same time.

3. M.O.T.H.E.R.

Remember to always sidestep the Sanitizing Strike Icon Sanitizing Strike and not take the damage or debuff from the ability. You can use Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding on a player walking through the Defense Grid Icon Defense Grid to avoid him spawning a Remnant of Corruption add, as well as Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield for yourself. Paladins are great at dealing with the adds due to the fact that Avenger's Shield Icon Avenger's Shield silences the mobs for 3 seconds even if it does not interrupt a current cast. Fist of Justice Icon Fist of Justice shines to single target interrupt while Blinding Light Icon Blinding Light can be used as an AoE interrupt on the adds should multiple need to be dealt with at once.

In the final chamber there will be no adds to deal with but instead you will have to deal with running around the Uldir Defensive Beam Icon Uldir Defensive Beam. This beam is even deadly for tanks, but can if needed be avoided with Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding and Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield.

4. Fetid Devourer

4.1. Suggested Talents for Protection Paladins on Fetid Devourer

The two tank roles on this fight are vastly different, one takes sustained damage while the other one takes massive damage every so often. Paladins do well in both roles. If you are not main tanking you will be handling the Terrible Thrash Icon Terrible Thrash, always keep an eye on the buff the boss has, this attack is a massive physical hit that can not be dodged or parried, however you can use both Blessing of Protection Icon Blessing of Protection as well as Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield for before the hit and you will be immune to the damage. This means that you can not spec into Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding for this fight, but you want the extra movement Cavalier Icon Cavalier provides anyway. If you are assigned to take the Terrible Thrash it is important to rotate Shield of the Righteous Icon Shield of the Righteous, Ardent Defender Icon Ardent Defender, Guardian of Ancient Kings Icon Guardian of Ancient Kings, as well as immunities for each hit; this toolkit allows you to never take a hit without at least one of these effects. Remember that the boss will deal 25% more damage below 50% health due to Fetid Frenzy Icon Fetid Frenzy.

5. Zek'voz, Herald of N'Zoth

5.1. Suggested Talents for Protection Paladins on Zek'voz, Herald of N'Zoth

5.2. Protection Paladin Tips for Zek'voz

Since the shadow part of his triple attack is a frontal cone effect, you can safely use Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding to avoid both the damage as well as the application of the debuff from Void Lash Icon Void Lash or use Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield against one stack while taunting, to remove the 50% reduced healing debuff. Shield of the Righteous Icon Shield of the Righteous always needs to be up against Shatter Icon Shatter.

Try to target the Nerubian Voidweavers with Avenger's Shield Icon Avenger's Shield to help with interrupting as it does not only interrupt, but also silences them for 3 seconds. You can also help stun with Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice and should they become stun immune you can always use Blinding Light Icon Blinding Light to help with an interrupt as well. These abilities are also effective against mind controlled people in the last stage of the fight.

6. Vectis

6.2. Protection Paladin Tips for Vectis

Make sure to not stand close to the rest of the raid as to not get the Omega Vector Icon Omega Vector debuff. In this fight, the vast majority of damage you take is going to be magical. While you are most likely going to want to run Righteous Protector Icon Righteous Protector for extra healing, Seraphim Icon Seraphim can seem like a viable choice as well since the Mastery and Versatility gained from the buff will help reduce damage, while Shield of the Righteous Icon Shield of the Righteous will not. Yet another fight where Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding is incredibly strong.

7. Zul, Reborn

7.1. Suggested Talents for Protection Paladins on Zul, Reborn

7.2. Protection Paladin Tips for Zul, Reborn

While tanking the Bloodthirsty Crawg adds, try to keep Shield of the Righteous Icon Shield of the Righteous up as much as possible to further reduce the damage they deal, as they will heal themselves depending on how much damage they deal to you. It is always beneficial to try to stack as much on top of Zul as possible for increased damage, but make sure to run out with the Nazmani Crushers before they reach 100% energy as they will buff all other enemies around them with increased damage. Make sure to run out towards the edges of the rooms before Rupturing Blood Icon Rupturing Blood debuff runs out, this debuff deals Physical damage over time, which can be reduced with Shield of the Righteous or you can immune it with Blessing of Protection Icon Blessing of Protection or Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield.

8. Mythrax the Unraveler

8.1. Suggested Talents for Protection Paladins on Mythrax the Unraveler

8.2. Protection Paladin Tips for Mythrax the Unraveler

After being hit by Essence Shear Icon Essence Shear make sure to pick up Oblivion Sphere Icon Oblivion Spheres in order to replenish your maximum health. In Phase Two, Protection Paladins can be very useful to help interrupt the N'raqi Destroyers Void Volley Icon Void Volley in case you are either lacking interrupters or want most of them to focus on the other Destroyer meanwhile.

9. G'huun

9.1. Suggested Talents for Protection Paladins on G'huun

9.2. Protection Paladin Tips for G'huun

In the first phase, make sure to help interrupt Blightspreader Tendril and Cyclopean Terror with Avenger's Shield Icon Avenger's Shield as much as you can, especially on targets at range of melee. Only stand inside the Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain if you can survive tanking while taking the increased damage, all the while you make sure to position the Dark Young add where it hits multiple adds at the same time. Make sure to swap who is tanking G'huun often to reset his Growing Corruption Icon Growing Corruption stacks so you do not tank for an extended period. His melee damage inflicts additional magic damage, and this quickly becomes the majority of damage you will take when tanking the boss. You can immune these stacks with Blessing of Spellwarding Icon Blessing of Spellwarding if you need to tank him for a longer period of time, like when the other tank is resetting his Putrid Blood Icon Putrid Blood stacks.
