Azerite Traits and Essences, introduced in Battle for Azeroth, need to be chosen correctly, to ensure optimal performance. On this page, we explain how to pick your major and minor essences and which traits are best.

This page is part of our Restoration Shaman PvP Guide.

Azerite Essences for Restoration Shamans

Essences allow players to customize their characters while adding a new ability to use. This section will cover the best overall Azerite Essences for Restoration Shaman in PvP.

For a general guide to all the essences, as well as how to obtain them and increase their ranks, check out our Essence guide.

Before reading this page, you should have a good understanding of the PvP playstyle of a Restoration Shaman. So we advise you to read our dedicated page on the subject.

1.1.

Major Essences

Conflict and Strife Icon Conflict and Strife gives you a PvP talent as a baseline ability. For Restoration Shaman, that is Ancestral Gift Icon Ancestral Gift. Because Ancestral Gift is chosen in almost every matchup, this will free up a spot for other important PvP talents. It also gives you the Minor Power, Strife Icon Strife. This will give you additional Versatility.

The Crucible of Flame Icon The Crucible of Flame is an essence that can be used in many different ways. If you get interrupted, you can use it to heal a teammate. You can also use it aggressively for damage if an enemy is low. The versatility of this Essence is why it is good to have.

1.2.

Minor Essences

In addition to having a Major Essence, you can choose two Minor Essences to place in your neck at Heart of Azeroth Levels 55 and 65.

Seed of Eonar Icon Seed of Eonar will put a HoT on one of your teammates that takes damage. It will heal when they take damage again. This is a great passive heal to increase your overall output.

Memory of Lucid Dreams Icon Memory of Lucid Dreams gives your spells and abilities a chance to refund 50% of the Mana spent on them and heal you. This is great for staying at a healthy Mana level throughout a long match.

Conflict and Strife Icon Conflict and Strife gives you the Minor Power, Strife Icon Strife. Because some teams will try to make you their kill target, the Versatility you gain from it will significantly increase your survivability and healing output.

Vitality Conduit Icon Vitality Conduit provides the Minor Power, Transference Icon Transference. This heal scales with Versatility and procs very often. This will easily be one of your top heals at the end of an arena match.

Azerite Traits for Restoration Shamans

Azerite traits are unlocked in you helm, shoulders and chest. With each Azerite level in your neck, you get closer to unlocking the center trait in your gear. These traits vary from increasing damage or healing of certain abilities to helping increase your survivability. Depending on what traits you use, it can completely alter your playstyle and what talents you should be using.
