Temple of the Jade Serpent Heroic Dungeon Guide (WoD 6.1.2)
Table of Contents
The Temple of the Jade Serpent is a 5-man dungeon located in Jade Forest, on Pandaria. The Normal-difficulty version of the dungeon is open to players between level 85 and 90, while the Heroic-difficulty version of the dungeon is reserved to level 90 players. It houses 4 encounters: Wise Mari, Lorewalker Stonestep, Liu Flameheart, and the Sha of Doubt.
Introduction
Yulon, the Jade Serpent has been driven out of her temple by the Sha of
Doubt. In order to reclaim the temple, you will have to defeat several
of the regular temple denizens who have been become corrupted by the
presence of the Sha, before finally defeating the Sha of Doubt.
The dungeon houses four bosses. You can attempt the first two in any order. The dungeon features both Normal (level 85+) and Heroic (level 90) modes. There are no differences in mechanics between Normal and Heroic modes. The only differences are increased health and damage done for all bosses and enemies.
This guide will cover all of the four boss encounters, as well as the quests and achievements that are available in the dungeon.
Normal Difficulty Loot
In Normal Difficulty, the level of the items you can obtain from the Temple of the Jade Serpent is 410. Quest rewards have an item level of 400.

Quests
There are 2 quests that can be completed within the instance. They are given by Priestess Summerpetal and Master Windstrong inside the temple, at the entrance. These quests have no known prerequisites.
The first quest is Restoring Jade's Purity. It requires you to defeat the first three encounters of the dungeon.
The second quest is Deep Doubts, Deep Wisdom. It requires you to defeat the final and fourth boss of the dungeon.
The quests reward you with item level 400 gear (see loot section above).
Wise Mari
To reach Wise Mari, take left as soon as you enter the dungeon. Normally, you will have already been in the temple while doing the Jade Forest quest lines, so the layout of the temple will not be foreign to you.
On your way to the Fountain of the Everseeing, where Wise Mari is located,
you will have to fight several Corrupt Living Waters, which split into
3 Corrupt Droplets and leave a puddle of Sha Residue upon dying
(which can be very deadly if you stand in it). You will also find a few groups
of lone Corrupt Droplets.
The Fight
After reaching the Fountain of the Everseeing, you will be able to engage
Wise Mari by approaching him. He will stand in the middle for the entire
fight and does not need to be tanked. The fight itself is split in two phases,
both of which are very easy to deal with.
During Phase One, Wise Mari is invulnerable and will summon
4 Corrupt Living Waters, one after the other. They have the same mechanics
as the Corrupt Living Waters that you have fought to reach the boss and
they should be tanked towards the back of the room, away from water pools.
The reason why you want to be at the back of the room is because standing
in water pools or close to them will cause your group to take damage
from
Hydrolance, which Mari often casts to make
the water pools erupt, and
Corrupted Waters, which causes players to
take damage when they stand in water.
From our experience, Wise Mari will start summoning a new Corrupt Living Water (a
process that takes a few seconds) as soon as you kill the one you were fighting
against. This means that you need to take care of the 3 Corrupt Droplets
rapidly, before the new Corrupt Living Water reaches you.
During Phase Two, Wise Mari is no longer invulnerable and will only
rotate on himself, while spouting water in front of him (
Wash Away).
All you need to do is turn around him clockwise to avoid the
water jet, while making sure that you do not step in the water pools,
which would damage you (
Corrupted Waters). Keep attacking him while
moving until you defeat him.
All the damage in the encounter, with the exception of the melee damage done by the Corrupt Living Waters on the tank is easily avoidable.
Achievement: Hydrophobia
To complete the Hydrophobia achievement, you need to finish
the fight without being hit by any of the Water abilities in Heroic
difficulty:
Corrupted Waters,
Hydrolance, and
Wash Away.
Lorewalker Stonestep
After defeating Wise Mari, you need to go to the other end of the temple, to the Scrollkeeper's Sanctum, to assist Lorewalker Stonestep, whose library has been overrun by Sha-corrupted creatures.
On your way to the library, you will find several groups of Sha-corrupted enemies, none of which is difficult.
When you reach Lorewalker Stonestep, you need to defeat the Corrupted Scroll standing before him. This will lead you to one of two possible encounters: The Trial of the Yaungol or The Champion of the Five Suns.
The Trial of the Yaungol
During this fight, you will be faced two entities: Strife and
Peril. Attacking an entity will progressively stack
Intensity on it, which increases the damage it
deals. At 10 stacks, the entity gains
Ultimate Power, becoming immune
to damage for 15 seconds. Not attacking an entity will cause the stacks
of Intensity to drop and will stack
Dissipation on it, which decreases
the damage it deals (up to 10 stacks).
The simplest way to complete the encounter is to attack an entity until
it gains
Ultimate Power, then switch to the other one. By the time
one entity gains
Ultimate Power, the other will have lost the buff
and probably stacked
Dissipation a few times.
Because Intensity causes an entity to deal
proximity damage, you need to make sure that non-melee players stay away from
the entities.
If
Ultimate Power proves too difficult to handle, you can attack one
entity until a maximum of 9 stacks of
Intensity
before switching to the other one. However, it might be difficult to get
members of a group from the LFG tool to change target at the right moment.
The Champion of the Five Suns
This fight is split in two phases.
During Phase One, you are faced with 5 suns, 4 of which you can attack
and destroy. They cast
Sunfire Rays at random players. When you destroy
a sun, it creates a Haunting Sha, which needs to be tanked, as it casts
Haunting Gaze at its current target.
Here, most LFG groups will rapidly kill the suns first and then handle the
Haunting Shas that spawn. However, the strategy that yields the lowest group
damage is to kill the suns one by one, each time killing the Haunting Sha that
spawns before moving on to another sun.
During Phase Two, you will face Zao Sunseeker, who was assisting you
in Phase One, and who has by now been corrupted by the Sha. He will
frenetically cast Hellfire Arrows at random group members and you simply need
to burn him down.
Liu Flameheart
In the next room, you will find Liu Flameheart who has been corrupted
by the Sha and needs to be defeated. The fight is divided in 3 phases.
During Phase One, Liu will cast three abilities:
Serpent Strike, which deals damage to the tank, instantly and over time (it may be possible to dispel the DoT component);
Serpent Kick, which immediately follows a Serpent Strike and for which melee should move 8 yards away from the boss;
Serpent Wave, which creates 3 waves of fire moving out of Liu and that players need to avoid.
When Liu has 70% health remaining, Phase Two begins. It is essentially the same fight as in Phase One, just that each of her abilities has been empowered with an additional effect and has a slightly different name:
Jade Serpent Strike now places a healing absorption effect on the tank;
Jade Serpent Kick now also knocks back players within 8 yards;
Jade Serpent Wave now creates waves of fire that leave a damaging trail of fire in their wake.
Phase One and Two can be confusing at first, and healers will probably have to heal a lot of damage caused by players not properly dealing with the various mechanics.
When Liu has 30% health remaining, Phase Three begins. Liu becomes
invulnerable, and for the remainder of the encounter you will fight Yu'lon, the
Jade Serpent. Yu'lon will keep casting
Jade Fire, which creates damaging
patches of fire on the ground that need to be avoided. Other than that, she
will regularly melee the tank.
Sha of Doubt
The fight against the Sha of Doubt is very straightforward. The main
mechanic to watch out for is Figments of Doubt. When the Sha casts this
ability, it creates a copy of each player that needs to be defeated. The easiest
way to deal with the copies is to round them up and DPS them down. They have
an energy bar that fills rapidly. When the Energy bar is full, they explode,
each dealing damage to players and healing the Sha for 10% of its
health.
Other than that, the Sha of Doubt needs to be tanked and he will regularly
damage two random players with
Wither Will and afflict a random
player with
Touch of Nothingness, which causes them to deal
proximity damage to other players. Healers can and should dispel
Touch of Nothingness.
Achievement: Cleaning Up
To complete the Cleaning Up achievement, you need to defeat the Sha
of Doubt while under the effect of
Purified Water, a 5-minute buff given
to you after killing Wise Mari in the Heroic version of the dungeon.
Simply start with the Lorewalker Stonestep encounter before engaging Wise Mari. After defeating Wise Mari, the doors leading to Liu Flameheart in Wise Mari's room will open and you will have 5 minutes to finish the instance.
Achievement: Seeds of Doubt
To complete the Seeds of Doubt achievement, you need to defeat the
Sha of Doubt while having 4 stacks of
Seed of Doubt, in Heroic difficulty.
You will find Seeds of Doubt around the area where you fight the Sha of
Doubt. When you click one, it gives you one stack of Seed of Doubt, which
lasts 1 minute and increases Shadow damage taken by 25% (so by 100% at 4 stacks).
To succeed, you should wait until the end of the fight before stacking 4 stacks of Seed of Doubt. When you do, you should be ready to use survival abilities, if you have any, because all the damage done by the Sha of Doubt's abilities deal Shadow Damage (which means that you will take increased damage).
Seed of Doubt also grants you an aura that deals Shadow damage, but we do not currently know whether it deals damage to enemies or party members.
