Do you want a house in Final Fantasy XIV? The last time FFXIV added new housing wards was over 2 years ago in Patch 6.3. Since then, finding new house plots was a hopeless cause… until now! Luckily for most players, this upcoming weekly reset may be your best chance at buying a plot! This is primarily for players on North American Data Centers, but don’t worry! In Patch 7.3, the auto-demolition timer will resume for European Data Center estates, so you’ll get your chance soon!
What’s So Special About Next Week?
As a result of the lottery cycle and the auto-demolition timer, the next housing lottery period, from July 22nd to 26th, will have many plots available to buy on NA Data Centers. To learn why this week is your best shot, let’s learn how these upcoming housing plots became available.
Earlier this year in January, FFXIV paused the housing auto-demolition timer on North American Data Centers. As such, houses have stayed the same for about half a year in the following Data Centers:
- Aether Data Center
- Crystal Data Center
- Dynamis Data Center
- Primal Data Center
As of June 6th, 2025, FFXIV resumed the auto-demolition timer for all Data Centers mentioned above. If a player doesn’t enter their house at least once in 30 days, FFXIV will auto-demolish the plot. When auto-demolition occurs, the plot becomes available to purchase after a temporary period.

For purchasing houses under the Lottery system, they go through a 5-4-5 day cycle, where you can:
- Enter the lottery within 5 days
- Check the results within 4 days
- Repeat the cycle by starting a new lottery for 5 days
For relinquished plots since June 6th, players can buy them starting from July 22nd (45 days after the timer resumed).

The available number of housing plots don’t lie either: other players have confirmed there are around 100 plots on Balmung (one of NA Data Center‘s most popular role-playing worlds), and PaissaDB estimates 200 plots on almost every world in Aether. So take advantage of this opportunity, and keep your new house forever (until your subscription runs out)!
Why is Buying a House Hard in FFXIV?
If you’re a newer player, or haven’t played in a while, you may want a refresher on how housing works in FFXIV. Essentially,
- There are only 60 plots in 30 wards per district (1,800 plots per district, 9,000 per world)
- Housing plots become available if the land is demolished or relinquished
- FFXIV only adds new housing wards and districts at their discretion
- Older accounts with multiple houses can be exempt from current restrictions
- So even if the player base grows (by thousands), house availability may not increase proportionately
In addition, there are two ways to purchase plots: either immediately after a temporary restriction period, or during a lottery entry period. Most plots are bought via Lottery, which gives you an equal opportunity to win a plot of your choice… versus everyone else who entered the same lottery.

So when pausing the auto-demolition timer, or if players regularly use their estate(s), plots are practically never on sale! Plots are also extremely expensive, not to mention large estates being few and far between. As such, a house is usually a big commitment for many players, and not something owners will give up easily.
There’s definitely more we haven’t covered here, so be sure to review the official Housing Guide on Lodestone. The official guide covers all of the purchase requirements and limitations, different land pricing, and how to build estates.
How Do I Win a House in FFXIV?
If you’re planning to buy new land this upcoming reset, here are some ways you can prepare!

Money, money, money! Different plots have varying prices based on where they’re located in the ward. All estate constructions also take an extra 1,000,000 gil. Definitely build a nest egg if possible! You can check the prices either through the Residential District navigation (from a city-state’s Main Aetheryte) or by interacting with the plot’s placard.
Check the availability ahead of time! Plots are available to buy starting from the weekly server reset, so you can scout at least a day in advance. There are plots of all sizes, with Small Plots likely not as desirable. If the plot is only available via Lottery, you can wait until July 25th, the last day to enter, to pick a plot that’s unpopular. Fewer entries, better chances of winning!

For each world, there are a total of five districts available to live in. To purchase plots in Shirogane, you must complete the main scenario quest Not Without Incident. For plots in Empyreum, you need to complete the main scenario quest Litany of Peace.

See what’s out there, and if the estate will be immediately available, you’ll definitely want to buy as early as possible! The buying and/or lottery entry period starts at weekly server reset. If it’s only available as a Free Company Lottery, try to get your Free Company members to help by entering too.
If you’re unable to buy a new plot, you can receive a refund by interacting with the plot’s placard. This refund is available for 90 days after the results period ends. Hopefully you’re able to get the housing plot of your dreams, dear Warriors of Light!
