[New Challenge Processes]

In Honkai: Star Rail’s Divergent Universe, Masks and Waypoint Passes play a key role in the updated challenge system. At the start of a run you choose a Mask that defines the overall playstyle for the challenge. After completing each Domain you select from a set of Waypoint Passes which determines the type of Domain you will encounter next. Throughout the run, certain actions allow the Mask to level up granting additional combat bonuses and better rewards. Leveling the Mask can also provide Miracles that enhance Waypoint Passes such as raising their level or adding a beacon, allowing you to gain extra advantages in the Domains connected to those passes.

What is the Mask System?

Following the Version 4.1 update in Honkai: Star Rail, the Divergent Universe allows you to choose from nine different Masks, each offering unique effects that influence gameplay. For example, the Gladiator Mask rewards players who engage in frequent battles by giving them opportunities to obtain free items from the Store.

During a run, you gather Wishpower through specific actions to increase your Mask’s level. As the Mask levels up you gain various buffs throughout the challenge. Each level up also grants a Miracle, which can provide benefits such as increasing the amount of Cosmic Fragments earned, while higher Mask levels unlock even stronger combat enhancements.

What is the Waypoint Pass System?

Waypoint Passes in the Divergent Universe determine which type of Domain you will enter next. Each pass corresponds to a specific Domain type for example an Occurrence Waypoint Pass leads to an Occurrence Domain. After clearing a Domain several Waypoint Passes are drawn from a deck where you select one to decide the next destination. The passes that appear are then moved to a discard pile and once the deck runs out the discarded passes are shuffled back in to be used again.

Masks and Miracles can further enhance these passes by increasing their level or adding special beacons. Higher level Waypoint Passes can improve Domain rewards for instance, a Level 5 Occurrence Waypoint Pass guarantees three Occurrences in the next Domain while beacons add extra effects such as the “Wealth” beacon which grants Cosmic Fragments when entering that Domain.

Character Trials and Enhancement System

In the Divergent Universe you can use trial characters during the challenge. The available characters includes all characters released two versions before the current update. An example of this, in Version 4.1 players can access every character released in Version 3.8 and earlier. In addition, all characters used within the mode receive special buffs helping improve their performance during the challenge.

Further changes and additions

The Divergent Universe, Equations, Blessings, Weighted Curios and Curios are receiving a major overhaul. New effects for Equations and Blessings will be introduced to better align with the gameplay mechanics of the latest version, creating a more dynamic experience for players. In addition, the way Weighted Curios are obtained is changing rather than choosing one random option from three, you can now equip them through a custom loadout allowing for more consistent and controlled gameplay during a run.
