New World Adds Catacombs Mode: Never-Ending PvE Content

Season 10 of New World introduced an entirely new form of PvE content for players in the endgame. This new mode is known as Catacombs, where up to three players explore the depths of a procedurally generated dungeon, battling a wide range of enemies and bosses, gaining unique mode-specific powerups, collecting cursed resources and currency, and racing to successfully exit and cleanse their treasures before time runs out.

By successfully completing a Catacombs game, players will be able to receive all-new currency known as Sterlings and Crowns. These new currencies allow players to buy gear caches (providing 750 Gearscore gear with randomize perks), new perk charm materials, and the option to purchase certain set pieces to take your character’s power to a whole new level.

While the difficulty of Catacombs isn’t too hard at the start of a session, the challenge (and reward) is increased significantly each time a boss is defeated. To counter this, players are able to acquire in-mode power-ups that enhance their stats and abilities.

With each boss defeated, players must decide between pushing further into the Catacombs for even greater rewards or safely making their exit before time run out. If players fail to exit safely within their 30 minutes of allocated time (or they use up all their respawn chances), they will lose the vast majority of the treasures collected. Luckily, only one player has to make it out safe for the full team to come out with all of the rewards!

The best part about Catacombs is that each time you enter, it will be a different experience. Every map is procedurally generated, with different mobs, bosses, jumping puzzles, and challenges waiting for you each time.

Catacombs have already been receiving high praises from the New World community, with many players calling it the repeatable endgame content that it always lacked.

Once a player reaches level 65, they can then queue up for Catacombs within their activity tab, where they will team up with two other players to start this randomly generated experience. We recommend that you don’t enter the Catacombs until you are level 70 though – as it’s some of the most difficult PvE content in the game!
