Assassin’s Creed Hexe might still be very far away, but a new set of interesting leaks is already giving us a better idea of what Ubisoft could be planning for the next main Assassin’s Creed game.
And honestly, some of these details sound far better and more experimental than the latest games in the series, so if those leaks are true, it will be really nice! However, keep this information with a grain of salt, because none of this is official, so anything could still change by the time this game is announced and released.
Hexe Could Take Players to Germany During the Witch Hunts
According to new leaks that have been shared on social media, the game’s main protagonist is going to be named Anika, with “Elsa” apparently only being an early placeholder name during development. Anika definitely does sound German.
The game is said to take place primarily around Würzburg, Germany, with additional explorable regions beyond the main city. That pretty much lines up with previous rumors pointing toward a darker setting inspired by things like Witch trials, occult rituals, blood pacts, and supernatural things like this.
We also got a few leaked voice lines that reinforce all of that:
- “They call me a Witch”
- “The forest moves at night”
Compared to the more mythological games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Odyssey, Hexe sounds like it may lean much harder into psychological horror and unsettling atmosphere.
Ezio Could Return?
One of the biggest surprises from those leaks is the claim that Ezio Auditore may somehow return. This is backed up by the fact that Ezio has apparently multiple voice lines in the game. However, again, nothing is sure because we did not find any of those said voicelines, and we also do not know exactly how that would happen. It all depends on the exact timeline Hexe places itself in. It could also just be things like:
- Flashbacks
- Visions
- Animus memory sequences
- Something more unusual linked to the game’s supernatural themes
We did find one voiceline that could really link back to Ezio: “Come. Leap with me. One last time for an old man.” But this could also refer to any other old Assassin.
If Ezio is really part of the game, it will definitely bring old-time fans back to the series!
New Traversal Mechanics May Focus on Forest Movement
Gameplay details from the leaks also suggest Ubisoft is experimenting with more traversal again. One mechanic would allow you to:
- Jump between tree branches (so a bit like Connor in ACIII)
- Move across forests more fluidly
- Unlock new traversal options over time
The stealth system may also become less forgiving. According to the leaks, NPCs will immediately report suspicious activity, and that could make stealth and avoiding detection far more important again, compared to some recent entries where you could just brute force every fight.
Again, as always, treat leaks with caution, but between the dark tone, the witch-hunt setting, and the possibility of legacy characters returning, Hexe will definitely be one of the more unique Assassin’s Creed projects Ubisoft has attempted in years.
