The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC, Claws of Awaji, launches September 16, 2025, and alongside the new story content comes a weapon players have been waiting for! It is the legendary Bo staff.
Free Quest Unlocks the Weapon

You can unlock the Bo staff by completing a free quest. The quest will be available to everyone that owns the base game. Once completed, Naoe will add the weapon to her arsenal and gain a new training sequence to master its moves. You do not have to buy the DLC to access this quest and get your first Bo Staff.
However, there is a catch! Be aware that procedural Bo drops across Japan are exclusive to owners of Claws of Awaji!
Exclusive Gear for DLC Owners
As mentioned, only the base weapon is free, DLC owners will get more out of it:
- Procedural Bo drops across Japan
- Unique Legendary Bo staves with special engravings
- Extra rewards tied to Awaji’s story and castle sieges
Some Legendary versions will also appear later via the Animus Hub and store bundles, but until then, the only way to get those weapons is on the island of Awaji.
Why the Bo Staff Matters
The weapon expands Naoe’s combat options significantly. With its long reach and crowd-control potential, it is going to drastically change stealth encounters and larger group fights. Combined with new skills and abilities coming in the DLC, you should have a bunch of new ways to tackle upcoming fights with Naoe!
Release Details

Claws of Awaji launches on September 16 at $25 / €25, across PC, consoles, and Mac. The expansion itself requires finishing the main Shadows story, but the free Bo quest will be playable immediately.
