The Swift Step (Dash) is one of the first major movement upgrades you will need in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Without it, you will be locked out of important areas and have a much harder time dodging attacks in combat. Here is exactly where to find it and how to unlock it.
Where to Find the Swift Step
- Location: Deep Docks
- Unlock Item: Swift Step Idol
The Swift Step is hidden in the Deep Docks, one of the game’s early areas. It is not really obvious to reach, but once you know where it is, you should have no trouble getting there!
Step-by-Step Unlock Guide
- Enter the Deep Docks
- Start from the entry point and head right toward the Map Merchant. Once you get the map, you will want to navigate all the way to the top.
- Keep heading right after the Merchant, pass the elevator that leads to the rest bench.
- After the elevator, climb the platforms until you reach the very top, then move right into the next area.
- Continue right past the jumping skeleton enemies until you find a little platform surrounded by lava.
- Walk Across the Lava to access the next set of platforms. Do not worry, it does not hurt you.
- Keep climbing until you see an orange ball embedded in the ceiling. Hit it and hide, it will explode and open a hidden passage.
- Move through the new opening and head left until you reach the Swift Step Idol. Interact with it to unlock the Dash.
What Happens After Unlocking
After obtaining Swift Step, you can continue to the left:
- Shortcut Unlocked: On the left after the Idol, you can open a shortcut back to the starting area.
- Rest Point: This path also gives you access to a Rosary Bench.
- Essential Progression: With the Swift Step unlocked, you will now be able to reach new areas, dodge faster in fights, and progress deeper into Silksong’s story!
You may want to practice chaining dashes right after unlocking the Swift Step. It is really a core tool for both exploration and boss fights, so mastering the timing early will save you trouble later!
