Recently, after the server slam, ARC Raiders players started to discuss the matchmaking options. One big thing that came up was how loot or “gear score” might influence matchmaking. A lot of players are worried that higher-level gear could give players an unfair advantage, especially in mixed solo and squad lobbies.
Devs Clarify Current Focus
In a short statement, the development team addressed these concerns. They did confirm that for the time being, matchmaking does not take into account any specific loot or gear score.
Instead, the current matchmaking is basically just keeping solo players and squads separated, making sure the matches are fair and balanced. They do not want to throw solo players in a match full of groups that can easier roll over them, for example.
Monitoring and Future Updates
The team also emphasized that this approach is for the launch period. It is not impossible for things to change in the future. They will continue to monitor the game and take into account player feedback. Their goal is to deliver matches that remain varied, interesting, and fair.
Loot-based matchmaking has been considered in the past, but the devs did not want to implement it directly. However, they are leaving the door open for future changes based on how everything evolves.

What This Means for Players
For now, players can jump into matches without worrying about specific gear. The goal is to have equal team sizes and fun gameplay, and not to punish or favor players with better loot.
ARC Raiders is really keeping things simple at launch, but they are definitely staying open to feedback, and anything can change in the future!
