Larian Reveals New Divinity Game at The Game Awards

The mystery has finally been solved! After weeks of guessing what that statue tied to The Game Awards was teasing, we’ve got our answer: Larian Studios’ newest project, Divinity.

Larian Returns to Divinity

That’s right—Larian is heading back to one of its original pillars, the Divinity series. It’s been years since the classic line has seen a true sequel. Plenty of fans assumed this reveal would be Divinity: Original Sin 3, a continuation of the series that came right before Baldur’s Gate 3. Instead, Larian is taking us all the way back to the universe that started it all with their 2002 original. But this isn’t a full suprise to some, as Larian filed for a New Divinity Trademark right before the gameawards.

What Is Divinity?

For anyone who hasn’t touched Larian’s older catalog, Divinity—also known as Divine Divinity, along with its sequel Beyond Divinity—is a top-down, isometric hack-and-slash RPG. Think Diablo 4 or Path of Exile, but with that early-Larian flavor. And with that comes the big question:

What gameplay style is Larian bringing back?

Will we see a modernized return to the isometric roots of the original games? Something closer to the tactical Divinity: Original Sin formula? Or maybe even a pivot toward Divinity II’s third-person action? Honestly, at this point, anything is possible—Larian has even made an RTS before with Divinity: Dragon Commander.

No matter the direction, one thing’s crystal clear: fans are starving to dive back into the world of Divinity.
