Marvel Rivals Cracks Down on Toxicity with New Update

Marvel Rivals has confirmed that, starting from Season 3.5 onward, matches will now automatically record all in-game voice chats to protect the community from toxic behavior.

A Change For The Better?

Along with the arrival of the new Duelist Blade and a brand new map, NetEase is continuing to make adjustments and changes to combat Marvel Rival’s ongoing toxicity problem. It’s no surprise that, between the launch of Season 1 and Season 2, Marvel Rivals has become extremely toxic.

From the numerous clashes between character and comp metas, to the never-ending clashes between Duelist, Strategist, and Vanguard mains, everyone knows the game is toxic. But will this change improve the life of the game, or cause some unforeseen shifts?

Marval Rivals Competitive Changes

So, not only should players be careful about what they type and say in Marvel Rivals, but some changes are also being made to Ranked. Moving into Season 3.5, not only will voice communication be monitored, but penalty and compensation measures are being adjusted.

For example, if a player disconnects during the loading phase, during the ban/pick phase, while selecting heroes, or within the first 70 seconds of a match, that match will be invalid. The player who disconnected will receive a Tier 1 penalty, which increases with repeated offenses. For the other players involved, the match will end in a draw with no penalties imposed.

Developers are also introducing a feature that enables players to mute custom words, giving users more control over the messages they encounter. They are also implementing various changes to address issues such as players going AFK and frequent offenders. For a full overview of the penalty system, check here.

Players have also begun discussing whether this is merely just a way to block toxicity or if it’s a gateway into something more.

What are your thoughts on these changes? Do you believe this initiative will help improve the environment in Marvel Rivals, or do you think it will have little effect on the game’s toxic community? Be sure to let us know, and be sure to stay updated with our latest news for future updates.
