REDSEC: Battlefield 6’s Wild Take on Battle Royale

Battlefield 6’s long-awaited Battle Royale mode, REDSEC, is finally here—and it’s everything fans have been hoping for. REDSEC captures the true Battlefield spirit, blending the familiar intensity of Battle Royale gameplay with the franchise’s signature chaos: tanks, airstrikes, and full-scale environmental destruction.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale

REDSEC fits seamlessly into Battlefield 6’s Season 1 narrative, dropping squads of soldiers into a redacted zone in Southern California as a massive wildfire closes in on the remaining playable area. The wildfire acts as BF6’s version of the classic shrinking storm, forcing players to stay on the move, looting, fighting, and climbing their way to the top of the squad leaderboard. Each match holds up to 100 players in either four-player squad or duo formats at launch.

Before deployment, each player selects one of four starting BF6 classes, along with their preferred Sidearm, Melee Tool, Two Gadgets, a Signature Weapon Proficiency, and Signature Trait. This system adds a touch of personalization, ensuring that not every soldier drops in with the same setup.

Across the map, players can find various loot opportunities, including weapon chests that range from basic to fully upgraded gear, and class chests that provide items unique to your chosen class. Vehicles also appear throughout the zone; some are drivable, while others act as themed loot caches packed with valuable supplies.

Players can also complete squad missions to unlock powerful rewards. You may even find a vehicle keycard that grants your squad a tank or other powerful weapons.

REDSEC Gauntlet

REDSEC isn’t just a Battle Royale; it also features an all-new Gauntlet mode, where eight squads face off in a series of intense, objective-based missions.

Unlike Battle Royale, Gauntlet mode uses the same Classes and Loadouts as Battlefield 6’s Multiplayer. This means your customized loadouts carry over directly into Gauntlet, letting you put your preferred playstyle to the test.

Each Gauntlet match unfolds across a four-mission sequence that gradually eliminates squads until only one remains:

  • First Mission – 8 Squads
  • Second Mission – 6 Squads
  • Third Mission – 4 Squads
  • Final Mission – 2 Squads

Objectives vary from Decryption, Extraction, and Territory Domination to Target Protection, Explosive Transport, and more. At launch, there are eight unique mission types, with a ninth mission, Rodeo, arriving mid-season.

According to EA, no two Gauntlet runs feel the same. The game features over 70,000 possible mission combinations, making it extremely rare to encounter identical sequences in back-to-back matches.

Victory in Gauntlet is determined by points, not just kills. You earn points for revives, objective play, and team support, rewarding smart and selfless tactics. Reviving a squadmate even counts twice: you gain one point while denying one from the enemy.

Finally, keep in mind that during the final minute of every mission, all points are doubled, creating high-stakes, clutch moments where a single play can turn the tide of battle.

REDSEC Portal

Lastly, the final REDSEC mode is actually an upgrade for Portal. That’s right, Portal’s sandbox is being upgraded with REDSEC. The REDSEC version of Portal includes the entirety of Fort Lyndon, as well as Gauntlet and Battle Royale and Verified Modes, with all free seasonal REDSEC content, including weapons, vehicles, and more.
