One of the most unique features in Scars of Honor is the “Scar System”. Unlike other MMORPG progression systems that rely purely on gear, leveling and skills, the Scar System adds a layer of meaningful character development that will directly impact your combat performance, playstyle, and overall strategy on the battlefield based around how you like to play your class.
Yes, Scars of Honor has a very in-depth talent tree system (pictured below), but this is just one level of the type of build customization players can experience in Scars of Honor. Even if one player completely copies the exact skill tree as another player, their overall combat experience, damage output, and other factors will be different due to this secondary layer of stats and passives.

Please Note: Scars of Honor is approaching its first playtest. Systems across the board will likely change and evolve as additional testing is done, so the information below may change over time.
How to Unlock Scars?
As stated above, Scars are permanent enhancements that will alter your abilities and playstyle that you can obtain as you continue to progress your character. To be more specific on how you get them, Scars are earned from major milestones and achievements – ranging from defeating certain elite mobs or bosses, to even potentially leveling your character up.
Once you actually complete one of these major milestones, you’ll be offered the choice to select one of multiple different Scar options. This is where the build customization comes in. Based on your class and overall preferred playstyle, you’ll want to select the Scar that you believe will have the most positive impact on your gameplay. Be careful though – sometimes it’s a hard choice!
Please note: There is also an option to reroll your Scar options, but there’s a cost associated with doing so. Plus, it doesn’t guarantee that the new Scar options are any better!

The image above gives a quick preview of some of the different level caps that are currently associated with obtaining Scars. As of now, it looks like once you hit these certain levels, you’ll be granted an option to choose a unique Scar.
