At the recent THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, we saw an exciting lineup of brand-new games and the return of beloved classics. Among the biggest reveals was the long-awaited new Darksiders game.
The Return of the Four Horsemen
What began as a rumor about a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning evolved into speculation among fans that THQ Nordic was developing a new Darksiders game. Fortunately, the rumors were true, as we received a brand-new teaser for Darksiders 4 at the end of the livestream.
What Do We Know About Darksiders 4 So Far?
From the teaser trailer and the official website, we know that this will be the first Darksiders game set in the present time since the very first entry. Both Darksiders 2, 3, and Genesis take place in the past, prior to the events of the first game, where War is eventually sent back into action.
Fans of the series will instantly recall the iconic final line from the first game, which appears again in the teaser trailer. This hints that Darksiders 4 picks up immediately after the events of the first game.
We also know that this game will be a third-person action-adventure title featuring combat, traversal, and puzzle-solving elements in a lore-rich post-apocalyptic world. Based on this description alone, we can infer that Darksiders 4 will be similar to the first two games.
What Horsemen Do We Play?
In Darksiders 4, players take control of all four horsemen: War, Death, Fury, and Strife. This inclusion pleasantly surprises fans since War, Death, and Fury have previously starred in their own dedicated games, while Strife has only made significant appearances in Darksiders: Genesis and briefly in Darksiders 3.
Although many are excited to play as all the characters, there is some disappointment among fans who wish Strife had received his own standalone game before the Horsemen reunited in this title.
