It’s been a very long time since one of the biggest survival craft games, Valheim, received a major update. Since the Ashlands update launched in 2024, fans have only gotten a short mini-series teasing the Deep North, but that series slowly went quiet. Now, however, it looks like players may finally get some major details, potentially tied to the game’s long-awaited 1.0 update this June.
The Road to Valheim 1.0
Recently, the developers announced a Valheim showcase during this year’s PC Gaming Show on June 7th. Naturally, the announcement sparked plenty of speculation within the community, with fans already wondering what the studio plans to reveal and whether the game will continue receiving support beyond its 1.0 launch.
All in all, Valheim has been in early access for five years, and its 1.0 launch is coming this year with the release of the Deep North. However, one question the developers and the community have gone back and forth on is whether Valheim will continue to receive updates beyond the final planned biome.
Will Development Continue Past the Deep North?

While Valheim has always had a subtle narrative that drives the player character to travel between biomes, the Deep North has always been on the roadmap as the final destination. So, while it could be easier to add in between biome updates, such as the recent Bog Witch or Call to Arms update, it could fit in well, unless the story has a bit of an open-ended final, there might not be room for additional biomes in a lore sense.
Still, fans have repeatedly expressed that they would be more than willing to buy future DLC to fuel further updates. After all, Valheim has been 20$ for over 5 years now despite the constant free updates.
Overall, whether the developers will continue working on Valheim or shift to a new project is one of the biggest questions the community has. Hopefully, we will get an answer this June, or at the very least a release date for the Deep North.
