A legend passed away yesterday, and aside from the many lives he touched through his music and philanthropy, he also affected many WoW players. We’ve already talked about the legendary Wrath of the Lich King ad, but now we see many players paying tribute to his passing in the game! From solitary Icecrown Citadel sessions to groups of players gathering, and even a pretty great idea for a new NPC in his honor, there’s plenty to see.
Official Salute
The official WoW X account saluted Ozzy’s passing as well, featuring the Warlock from the ad, as well as some back vocals!
The Tributes and Vigils
We have players showing their appreciation for Ozzy in many ways. Valdericht already had a fitting tribute from long ago, and decided to bring it back for the somber occasion. And as the comments mention, Ozzy would have also had a Spectral Tiger!
ConnMulgrew came up with a cool way to pay tribute, as Ozzy was a big part of why he started playing WoW in the first place. He also encouraged others to head to the top of Icecrown Citadel and celebrate the man!
Players in Classic held a bit of a service for his passing, performing a memorial walk from the Undercity to Deathknell.
An New and Old NPC
There’s already a tribute to Ozzy in the game. Osbourne Black, part of the Necrolord Shadowlands Covenant, sends players to save souls down in the Maw with a weekly quest. Facinatingly, as pointed out by dogmaisb, Ozzy himself spent some of his last days saving souls, as his final performance raised $190 million for charity!
However, players are suggesting a new NPC! Fittingly, the idea is that his Warlock from the WotLK commercial would give out the Undead dance style to everyone!
It’s amazing to see so many players affected by Ozzy and giving thanks in their own ways. We’ll see if Blizzard add another NPC in tribute as well, but we can always hope!
