Blizzard Wants The Last Titan to Recapture WoW: Forever’s Open-World Challenge

WoW: Forever is getting crazy amounts of attention at the moment—and rightly so. However, it seems Blizzard is paying close attention to what players enjoy about old school Azeroth, and taking notes for Modern WoW.

But how will Modern and Forever be able to run side by side without one game feeling favoured by Blizzard?

Speaking to Windows Central at BlizzCon 2026, Game Director, Ion Hazzikostas discussed how Modern can learn a lot from Forever, particularly when it comes to world exploration and levelling.

During the interview, Ion said “A world where the outer world is devoid of threats or excitement is missing something. We would never say ‘Go play Classic if you want that.’ All versions of WoW should have that.”

That philosophy could have a major impact on The Last Titan, especially with Blizzard already experimenting with Heroic World Tier in multiple formats. Ion said that Blizzard “would like to offer something like [Heroic World Tier] in The Last Titan, for people who want a more challenging, rewarding outdoor experience … as well as more friction, and more purpose.”

It seems Blizzard doesn’t want Forever to be the only place where players can get that feeling. Instead, they’re bringing some of those elements into Modern WoW whilst still allowing both versions to offer their own distinct experiences.

Perhaps The Last Titan could be our first look at how the lessons from Forever could shape the future of Modern WoW.
