10 Million “Fish”. One Player. And a Meme That Took Over WoW

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We have a very special accomplishment in WoW! One player continues their very intense obsession with… boot heels you fish from the Shadowlands? There’s many way to enjoy the game, but this one is definitely among the most… focused.

Ten. Million. Soles.

Grozez came around and updated the community on the status of his quest to gain seemingly all Lost Sole iconLost Soles in existence. This has been going on for quite a while. The first report came in two years ago, with “only” 5 million gathered!

The post also shared the origin story of this obsession:

“This has been a long time work in progress, starting back in 2021 when I filled up my friends guild bank entirely with lost soles. I thought it was funny, so I started collecting them bit by bit and eventually I had collected 1,000,000 of them. I kept going and just hit the 5,000,000 mark earlier today. I don’t expect much to come of this other than maybe a laugh or two, but my GM told me I should share it. ♥™”

So, how many Lost Soles can you gather over two years? Well, as it turns out, another 5 million!

The Meme Spreads

The community immediately got in on this new meme sensation, building on the 10 million insanity and creating another flashpoint in the r/wow meme culture.

Some warn that this is all just a scam to get players to buy Lost Soles by the Azeroth fishing lobby.

And there’s even copycats/vengeful players grabbing the stock so Grozez can’t get their hands on them!

The Lost Sole Craze was so strong it even made it to the Maw, where Sylvanas got into it! Either that or she got confused on her redemption path.

But the clincher came at the end, as one very angry resident of the Shadowlands came out to condemn all these fishermen stealing his long-gathered soles from his pond!

It’s always great seeing players find new ways to enjoy the game, even if they are extreme. Obviously, this was done for laughs, but the amount of dedication here is impressive nonetheless. Even a full-inventory fetish wouldn’t explain this level of commitment. And secondarily, it’s also always amazing seeing the community just blindly dive in to a new meme and seeing what they can do with it.

All in all, thanks to Grozez for another community flashpoint that we won’t soon forget!
