But Why Tho had the opportunity to sit down with Associate Game Director Paul Kubit and Associate Design Director Maria Hamilton to discuss 30 years of Warcraft. We’ve learned some interesting bits about Lorewalking in the interview!

Lorewalking is a new feature introduced in Patch 11.1.7 that allows players to experience Azeroth’s vast lore, bit by bit, starting with 3 stories!

Why Lorewalking Exists

According to Associate Design Director Maria Hamilton, Lorewalking was born from a need to make Warcraft’s deep, often fragmented lore more accessible. Many characters like Xal’atath have key story beats newer players disconnected from major narrative arcs.

“Lorewalking came out of us understanding that many players had not played some content that really explains a lot,” Hamilton explained. “We were thinking about how we could catch players up… and pull together all the pieces from different expansions.”

In the interview, both confirmed that Lorewalking will eventually include 38 separate stories for players to experience.
